HTC One M8 (pretty much) Full Spec List

That Verizon Packaging for it says it's an UltraPixel camera with same pixel sizes as the original one. Unless they have two ridiculous rear sensors in that phone, I wouldn't cross anything. Maybe they just trolled us, though. I'm thinking they're sticking with basically the same camera resolution/tech and will try to gimmick people into buying this one for the massive selfie camera, Lol.

Not gonna argue with a double standard on the gimmicky motion features

It's pointless to argue about it because we know nothing. I agree that the Verizon packaging is troublesome. I've said so in the past on this forum.

There is no double standard. What TouchWiz offers with their motion controls is completely different than what Sense 6.0 is bringing to the table. Literally they do different things as I already said. Whether you think Sense 6.0 brings anything worthy to the table with regards to motion controls is entirely your opinion. I certainty deem it a huge deal for the reasons I previously stated.

Aren't the Motion features in TouchWiz largely regarded around here as being gimmicky and unnecessary?

There is a difference between gestures (like the ones in Nokia N8, webOS devices or even the BB10) and waving in the air.
Gestures/swipes are the epitome of simplicity. Eye motion thingies and wavin' in the air like you don't care are not yet the same thing.

There is none. 

I'm not discussing it as I'm exhausted of that topic. We've been having it for years now.

That's how I feel about the camera discussion. For people that don't crop and zoom the One camera was just fine (like myself). Yet you continue to push the fact that it isn't good for anybody based on how you use it, and because it's "just 4MP". Them calling it Ultrapixel has nothing to do with the resolution, as you alluded to, and them putting a physically larger sensor in there to make the resolution higher isn't beyond the realm of possibility IMO.

Sounds very similar to what you're saying about the "gimmick" features.

The camera is worse but worse may be fine for some. If the camera isn't as important the metal build may be worth making that choice.

A better camera is not a gimmick. Sorry but that's a bit of a stretch.

Oh I wasn't saying a camera was a gimmick in any way at all.

Better for you is not better for all. If focus speed is worse or shutter lag is worse that makes it not better for me, barring absolutely terrible output.

Lots of new phones have got a 5MP front cam! I'm guessing if it has a higher pixel count than the main camera, it will use regular pixels, and then Ultrapixels on the 4MP shooter only?? Unless HTC have become obsessed with the perfect selfie...

HTC shipped the One with defective cameras. Just look at all the threads in these forums. The interface and features are near ideal. Hopefully they improved the camera building quality and added a couple MP then they'd be golden.

Yes, the FFC will use a normal BSI sensor and the back cameras will be UltraPixel cameras.

And yea, they've been trying to sell their phones based on their Selfie prowess for a while now. We know from their statements that their phones seem custom-built for Facebookers and Instagram junkies.

Frankly I don't think they care that their photo quality doesn't meet the mark for power users when compared to the competition. They are targeting that Facebook generation.

Almost every HTC Flagship that I've used had issues with Tinting in the image (i.e. point it at a white Refrigerator and there's a Purple or Yellow blotch in the image).

I don't know what the issue is, but HTC did put out an update for the HD2 which fixed it somewhat.

Some cameras (HTC, Apple) do have a bit of a cast on images (Purplish for HTC, Yellow for Apple) but I think that has more to do with post-processing than Sensor quality.

However, I don't think the camera was necessarily "defective" since HTC has historically always had to deal with this issue in their camera phones.

I've used the HD2, HD7, Inspire, Vivid, & One X and they all had the purple or yellow blotch/cast issue.

It's the first thing you should check when reviewing an HTC phone and it's the reason why I don't buy a phone without looking at a few review units and sending myself a lot of decent photos from it. I have a checklist that I go through when reviewing these devices, that makes me visit at least two units to complete, and I don't skip any steps :-)

"Power users" don't use phone cameras to take their pictures. They have dedicated cameras.
The only phone I ever used that could be considered good for a "power users" was the Nokia 808 Pureview. Everything else is just mediocre and suitable for laptop screens, tablets, mobile phones and social media. The same goes for your beloved Samsungs.
The HTC One is in the same category with all other phone cameras, no matter how hard you try to make it sound sub-par.
There are hundreds of very good HTC One photos in various forums that should prove it.

I've owned about 4 Rezounds (I'm pretty hard on phones), my son still has his Rezound, a DNA, and two different Ones and none of them had a problem with tinting in the images. Guess I've been lucky?

Thats some bad luck. I've had an Inspire and 3 One X's (various software issues) and none had those Camera issues.

I have this Anker battery pack now and I charge it over night and I'm good. I hardly ever have to use it though. I mostly always have a plug near by and keep an extra charger in my purse. My Anker has a small cord built in and it plugs right into my phone. and helps when I am out and there isn't a plug. I'm not worried about this new One. I can't wait to get it. Yes I like being able to just swap out a battery but I"m used to not having one. I had 3 extras when I had my 1st EVO. Now I just keep an extra plug and battery charger with me.

You bring up some very valid points about an embedded battery, especially about it wearing out over time.

I do have a battery pack that isn't always on my person but it does stay in my car in case I need it. In that way, it's not less convenient. Having to leave it plugged in is less convenient, but it doesn't bother me that much really. Maybe I've just gotten used to it.

I can also charge it far less frequently than a spare battery, since the capacity is about 4x that of my phone. When I do need to charge it, I plug it in overnight just like anything else. If someone doesn't have a spare microUSB charger that could be a problem, though.

But I don't need to use it all that often, because I have problem getting a days worth of use out of my devices. That's with the One and Nexus 5. Never had complaints about battery life. I can't say which is the more power efficient device, because I haven't had an S4 for long enough to do the testing, but I can't say the One or Nexus feels inadequate from a power performance standpoint.

Oh dear! HTC HD7 inherits HD2 pink camera problem | WMPoweruser

HTC Vivid review | EvoGadget.com

The HTC Vivid also comes with an 8-megapixel camera that sports a wealth of settings for both snapping pictures and shooting videos. Outdoor conditions produced overall good results, although some of the pictures had a purple tint about them and exhibited noise in darker areas. Macro shots were the camera’s best asset. The dual LED flash managed to turn photos taken in low light into decent-looking ones. Videos lost a lot of detail when we played them back.

That covers 3 of the phones I mentioned, just with a simple Google search for "confirmation."

I did see those issues on the other phones.

The Evo 3D had tinting issues as well (yellowish and green for some people).

Those camera tint issues are pretty common in HTC phones. It's been a common issue with their devices since 2009 or before (as in, ever since the general consumer started giving a hoot about the cameras on their smartphones). HTC used to be known for having terrible camera phones for issues like this (which is why standouts like the MT4G got so much attention). It wasn't until the Sensation series (and especially later with the One X) that they started getting a better reputation with that, but some of those flagship variants (like the Vivid) in that era had the exact same issues (Yellow or Purple Tint in the camera).

I don't remember mentioning a Rezound or DNA in my post, cause I've never owned or used those phones therefore I cannot comment on them :-) I went through T-Mobile and AT&T before I got to Verizon. The GS3 was the first phone I owned on Verizon, and by the time I got it both the DNA and the Rezound were pretty much not stocked in any carrier stores and I'm not even sure you could order one from online. If they were available, I would have likely given the DNA a pretty hard look :-)

Guess which phone has this purple tint in photos....
Hint: It does not have a crappy 4MP Ultrapixel camera...

We might be talking about different camera issues. Read the One threads and you'll see what I'm talking about. My 3 Ones all started out fine but two of the three developed the purple/pink tint issue and one lost the ability to focus. These are well known issues and the only fix is warranty repair/replacement. So yeah I'd say they were shipped with defective modules.

HTC should offer it in brown since its really a TURD. I was actually considering this phone until I saw the 16GB (10GB) usable space, I was hoping they were going to stick with the 32GB/64GB plus microSD. You cannot tell me adding a microSD caused them to reduce the storage and added too much expense. Missed the boat and please stop with the its the best phone of 2014 because its aluminum posts. Its NOT the best phone of 2014 and no phone is until 2014 is over and we see exactly what has been shipped, then we can vote. But the GS5 is the best phone of 2014 so far.

good luck with knox and that unlockable bootloader. i bet $$ we get s-off for the htc.
