Hello,
First time posting on this forum. I’m writing because I could use some help regarding my upcoming phone purchase here. My renewal is a week from today and I’ve had the HTC Evo 4G LTE for the past 19 months or so. Its efficiency and battery have been on the way down for some time, so it’s pretty much set that I’ll be getting a new phone next week. But overall, I’ve been pretty happy with that and Android in general, so I’ve been leaning towards the HTC One M8 as a result.
I’m currently on Sprint and as of late, their service hasn’t been too bad on my end. I also plan on doing the Easy Pay arrangement they have going at the moment. That includes unlimited data plus a certain amount each month for the phone until it’s paid off, which will still be cheaper than what I’m paying now. This also works for me since it’ll allow me to pay off a phone sooner if I want a new one, along with not having to deal with the two-year contract for now.
That’s where the question comes up. Originally, I was planning to get the HTC One M8 in Gunmetal Gray color. However, the Harman Kardon came up as an option due to the Easy Pay arrangement that it currently has with it. Long story short, getting the Harman Kardon version over the regular M8 would save me over $12 every month until the phone was paid off. I did some research and found out that the only real differences were in the aesthetics of the phones and the music software/hardware. For me personally, aesthetics are not a deal breaker. But I do prefer the Gunmetal Gray color to what the Harman Kardon has to offer. I might be putting a case on it in the future too, but I’m not sure yet which one it would be and how it might affect the visibility of everything else.
In terms of the music software, I do enjoy listening to music when I’m on walks or sitting somewhere for awhile. But it’s not something where I’m terribly picky on the quality either. Most of the tracks I have on my phone are in 320 MP3 and I rarely stream regularly. I don’t really listen to FLAC/WAV versions of tracks on the Evo either as it is, but I haven’t had any issues playing those on the Evo when it's come down to it. The only problems I’ve had with the Evo's audio and its Beats system have been some lagging in the playback, but I fine-tuned the settings to a point where it wasn’t much of an issue in the end. Plus, I’m assuming that the better processor and more current technology will help the recent phones have a leg up on the older ones anyway. So while things like the headphones or ClariFi/Live Stage technology could be fun to tinker with, it’s not something I’m dead set on having.
With that being said, do any of you have any opinions on which way to go here? Saving $12 and having slightly better options with audio is something to consider here, but if the regular M8 is decent enough in audio and looks a bit better, that could mean something too. Would you still take the one with the $12 discount per month though? And are there other issues between the two phones I haven’t mentioned that are worth considering here?
Any help would be appreciated, so I thank you in advance for that and sitting through this!
