HTC One M9 Review Part 2 by Anandtech :(

I like my M9, it is far superior to my M7, so this guy's review is about as valuable as a Rembrandt is to the blind. There are always going to be people that sit in one camp and fling dung on another. I am sure not every Ferrari owner has given glowing reviews.

i wish it weren't the case, but bt the black bar and camera, i'm just not considering the m9 for my upgrade. the competition is fierce in 2015, and HTC just didn't bring their A game. i get that it has its fans, and i certainly don't consider it a bad phone, but there are several other devices i'd consider before the m9

also, the fact so many HTC owners are defending it by saying "the m9 is better than the m7" isn't very reassuring. i mean, i'd certainly hope that'd be the case. the fact that even needs to be stated is alarming.

The M7 had a better screen than the M9 according to Anandtech. That is damning. 2 generations and they go backwards? They either don't have the resources or don't care or have been poorly managed (or all the above; HTC's struggles are real).

I agree about the camera. Regarding battery I cannot say anything about the S6. I can only compare the M8 with the M9 and the M8 is definitely better, but that doesn't mean that the M9 is bad. Especially in energy saving mode (not the extreme mode) there is no noticeable performance loss but a definite battery life gain. There are definitely ways to deal with the battery life and I guess it will be similar with the S6.

People forget but the M8 had battery issues at first, too. I suspect that after a few months, with updates from HTC rolling out over time, the battery life will get better. This is a brand new phone and yes, there are issues - but that's how every new tech product goes. The SG6 has certainly had its share of complaints thus far, as does every iteration of iPhone. People forget because these issues are solved over time and the experience changes.

Anyway, I want to thank you for the info you've provided in this thread. I feel like the real-world use of a real-world user is significantly more important than a bunch of meaningless benchmarks that don't have any basis in regular usage of the device. If the battery gets through the day every day and the phone is enjoyable for you, I see it as a device to reasonably consider for anyone looking for a new phone. People hoping for a massive leap in features perhaps set their hopes too high, but I'm confident that HTC is listening to the feedback and will continue to work hard to produce quality devices.

I just looked over at the M8 forums. I don't see any of the early battery complaints you are talking about.

whatever the case it's very disappointing. the camera out of the box isn't close to how well it can actually perform, which is unfathomable. of course me, u and every other geek on here will take care of it in 3 minutes, but the average Joe, which is 95% off its users, won't even touch the settings. per the anandtech review, I think it would've been wiser if they didn't even touch the look and feel, being that the changes were so minimal, and instead or more resources where they really needed it. I just hope they get the m10 right, cause they had a really great phone going and they failed to capitalize on it. still a great phone, but can't sit still in this industry and there are just to many better options in 2015 imo
