HTC One says PIN is incorrect after system update

I got a message saying there was a system update but after updating the system I can no longer get into the phone as my previous PIN no longer works and I have tried all sorts and rebooted a few times. My phone is HTC one with firmware version 7.18.161.21. Please help

Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about a screen unlock PIN, or a SIM unlock PIN? A system update wouldn't have changed the PIN.

Is the phone encrypted?

Same thing happened to me while updating OS system. I am using Samsung Tab A. Now I cannot access my Tab and got "Incorrect PIN entered"

How do you know if the phone is encrypted? What is the impact? Anything we can do?
