HTC One = Total Fail?

Well I've been using the phone for just over a week now and for me the camera and video it produces are a good quality and captures sound booming at you.
Video I took at a gig on Tuesday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdDsoxPSOcY
Put it in 1080p mode and it is as good as any other phone you're likely to use. I was stood about 2 foot away from the speakers and yet the sound still seems very clear.
Video was low light, high contrast with the spotlights behind and yet there is still good detail.

As for normal picture taking I had it connected via the medialink HDMI to my TV and the quality again looked sharp.
Not really going to have the images any bigger than that.

As for usability and speed it is second to none, my work phone is an iPhone 5 and it beats that silly in speed.
Not a big fan of blinkfeed but it isn't my homescreen so it doesn't bother me.

Boomsound is phenomenal, loudest and clearest phone speakers on the market. No doubt, only problem is if you use your phone as an alarm, it wakes the street up not just yourself, advise you set the alarm volume to half.

Cracking phone and I am very happy with the purchase.
Mind posting a few pics to show everyone that megapixel's aren't everything a good camera needs?

I really wanted to like this phone but having a hard time not viewing it as a total fail. My S3 is the best phone I've ever had but I'm only loyal until something newer and shinier comes out and would've gladly jumped back to HTC if the One didn't fail in so many areas.

1. If HTC was going to chintz on the megapixels and take a HUGE marketing risk, they should've made sure the camera was the best available or at least as good as it's main rivals. From all the reviews I've read, the camera is decent but clearly not on par with the best. Good in low light but that's about it?

2. Running older version of Jelly Bean? Really? has HTC fallen so far that it couldn't get 4.2.2 like the S4 and can anyone honestly say it will get Key Lime Pie in a timely fashion? Anyone want to bet whether the S4 gets it first?

3. Blinkfeed, if I wanted Flipboard, I would download Flipboard not have it front and center.

4. Battery life. Most reviews are on the HSPA+ version, not the US LTE Version so reviews are practically worthless and even then battery life has been reported as OK, nothing stellar.

5. Screen, again a chance for HTC to distinguish itself but it went smallish and while it's exemplary, the S4 is bigger, lighter and at least as good from the reviews so far.

6. Lack of features. Sure many of the S4 features are gimmicky and may not be used after the 1st week but some are likely going to be keepers and imitated by other makers.

7. Availability. Late April in the US? T-Mobile just announced the S4 for May 1 and I'd imagine the other carriers will be within days. Whomever at HTC was responsible for the One launch may single handedly bring HTC down. The launch could literally buried by the expected S4 blitz in the US, there is no Verizon version and I'm willing to be ATT will have the S4 front and center in its stores.

I'm sure I'll get flamed and accused of trolling but whatever :) Have at it.

As for #3.... I long ago disabled Flipboard in the Application Manger. Granted, still in my phone (I will admit, an S3), but it's now not sucking up RAM I could use for anything else. I have also disabled Kies, Media Hub, Gaming Hub...and all the other apps I could care less about, and disable.

Verizon just sent me email saying they have the Blackberry Z10. There's no wait for that! Go get it. Meanwhile I'll hobble along on my poor, outdated Note 2. Which due to the screen size kicks the Ones' butt clean across the parking lot. And I don't have to wait all the way to late April. You know - a month. Awful.

I love the way there's an awful lot of people in this thread touting their own biased opinions as 'fact'. Go you.

At the end of the day, everyone is different and has different reuirements from a phone. Some love the HTC One, some love the Samsung. Get whichever floats your boat and stop this incessant genital waving...

Incorrect, the S4 performed better in low light according to this test:

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One: Army of two - GSMArena.com

Money quote "But the camera's performance is simply nothing to write home about, and there are cases when OIS just isn't helping at all (when shooting moving subjects"

Looking at those pictures it's clear that GSM arena has no idea what they're talking about. The S4s pictures are overexposed for what should be dusk pictures. Also, dusk pictures aren't a true low light setting. Take some night pictures, or pictures with almost no light, and see how well the S4 performs then.

I agree with you, especially about blink free.... doesn't it drain battery?
I have more lines to upgrade but no rush. Everyone's happy lol

Well son of a ....... My wife's going to be really pissed when she finds out that the $600 I shelled out for the 14MP Nikon we bought was a waste. All I needed to do was buy the GS4 with that "utterly badass 13mp camera". Who knew!

Yup, I think my dad's going to want to hold off of buying that Canon 70D DSLR that's coming out soon.

Yeah, what a bunch of ***** Samsung trolls they are at the website

The large selling point is build quality. If you like your S3 then get the S4. Really its not a big deal. But I could refute 90% of your reasons why its a "total fail". Really just get the S4 and be happy. But don't call this phone a total fail having never used it.

First let me say I agree that the one won't be a failure at all

With that said, how do you know the build quality is so good? The phone is so new, it could have issues minor or small.

Denial much??

Soooooo, AT&T is taking pre-orders on the S4 on 4/16 which suggests the phone will be available by the end of April. Won't it be hilarious if the One and S4 get released within a few days of each other?

I won't buy a 5" screen ONE. I want the 4.7 and if the camera can take pictures as good as the EVO 4G LTE does ill be damn happy. I rarely crop my pictures much and have loved it so far.

HUH? The 5" screen on the S4 has comes in a smaller, lighter package than the 5.7" screen on the One. :-X

HTC is not samsung and samsung is not HTC.... and the best part...
They want to keep it that way.... why? ...may you ask. So the consumer can have different choices/ features/ gimmics/ overall loudness of fart noises/ etc.
So stop comparing. they are different on purpose!!!!
