HTC One = Total Fail?

Always amusing how these threads degenerate into people taking turns posting wildly inaccurate information to score a win

agree 100%...

Just shakin' my head, just not gettin' how a flagship (for whatever that's worth these days) phone can be announced with as much hype as the HTC One and THEN be "flanked with mfg delays with no release date in sight" ....is this the way to salvage a floundering company? Who is in charge over there @ HTC?! Samsung's CEO's son? lol

call me crazy, but what good is a beautiful phone with only average functionality and that no one but a select few can apparently get there hands on? Normally such an "elusive device" would stir up excitement and make it a hot property, but HTC's future is just is a little too precarious for that to happen....I think all the weirdness surrounding this device is more of a turn off than "intriguing"....

(and it won't pay for anyone to dispute my opinion, i base it on my own set of facts that are locked in a steel vault that no one but me has access to :-$

Sorry, I'd rather have a removable battery. Never needed a curved case before, and I don't need one now.

Don't try to move the goalposts. You tried to claim HTC dropped the ball by putting design ahead of utility when, in fact, the design was designed as it was specifically for the utility of its shape.

Well that's all well and good, and I'm sure HTC has its explanations as it flails about in damage control mode, but a 4mp isn't going to shoot the same resolution as 13mp. HTC is in BlackBerry Curve territory.

HTC says it helps with low light shots. My Note 2 has a low light setting that works extremely well. I've got to believe that the SIV will have the same technology with its utterly badass 13mp camera.
Well son of a ....... My wife's going to be really pissed when she finds out that the $600 I shelled out for the 14MP Nikon we bought was a waste. All I needed to do was buy the GS4 with that "utterly badass 13mp camera". Who knew!

Well, I have a 1080p monitor. And a 1080p TV. And I happen to know (I looked it up) that a 4MP picture is 2289 x 1712 resolution. Which is bigger than 1080p. So I'm really not sure why anybody would want/need to zoom way in on a picture in order to show it to somebody on a monitor or TV.

Now, maybe you were standing really far away and you want to zoom in and crop. That's cool, but nobody's really mentioned that. But let's be honest you're not going to be doing that with your "everyday snapshots". Or you shouldn't. Get a "real" camera for the paparazzi shots. :)

I do know that 90% of my pictures are taken indoors, usually of my kids. And we don't always have ideal lighting (my Wife thinks it makes the electric bill lower). For me, the camera in the One makes perfect sense.

For other people, maybe not. But don't go saying it "sucks". It's just simply not for what you want it for.

Wow, all those paragraphs for a phone you're not going to buy. Not the most productive use of your time.

Let's all make sure we keep the discussion civil and productive, yeah? :) There's a lot to discuss with the HTC One and its competitors (such as the Galaxy S4), and a many important points of debate such as the camera, software overlays, and build quality. We all have different opinions of the manufacturers, the hardware, and the software, and we all have different points of view from which we establish these opinions. Embrace them!

Now I've heard it all!

What functions does the "utility of its shape" perform?

I'm not trying to sass you, but why not get a badass S4 with 13mp camera with low light setting? That way the pictures won't look like rat turd.

All the HTC damage control sure seems like a lot of work!

Lolz!

The S4 pictures will look like a turd in lowlight regardless of settings. Go learn about how camera sensors work and why a high MP, but small sensor, will not result in better pics.

Incorrect, the S4 performed better in low light according to this test:

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One: Army of two - GSMArena.com

Money quote "But the camera's performance is simply nothing to write home about, and there are cases when OIS just isn't helping at all (when shooting moving subjects"

You skipped some. Regarding the S4: "You'll have to snap several photos to make sure you have a good one, but the end result will be better than what the HTC One produces." Regarding the One: "The HTC One is more reliable - thanks to its OIS you can snap just one photo and know it will be about as good as it gets."

Personally, I take pictures of kids who don't like to sit still long enough to make sure I got the perfect shot. It's all about use case.

Well I've been using the phone for just over a week now and for me the camera and video it produces are a good quality and captures sound booming at you.
Video I took at a gig on Tuesday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdDsoxPSOcY
Put it in 1080p mode and it is as good as any other phone you're likely to use. I was stood about 2 foot away from the speakers and yet the sound still seems very clear.
Video was low light, high contrast with the spotlights behind and yet there is still good detail.

As for normal picture taking I had it connected via the medialink HDMI to my TV and the quality again looked sharp.
Not really going to have the images any bigger than that.

As for usability and speed it is second to none, my work phone is an iPhone 5 and it beats that silly in speed.
Not a big fan of blinkfeed but it isn't my homescreen so it doesn't bother me.

Boomsound is phenomenal, loudest and clearest phone speakers on the market. No doubt, only problem is if you use your phone as an alarm, it wakes the street up not just yourself, advise you set the alarm volume to half.

Cracking phone and I am very happy with the purchase.
