HTC One = Total Fail?

The battery life on my HTC One is absolutely epic. I ran it side by side with my iPhone 5 receiving the same emails and with the same screen on time but I received and replied to about fifteen sms messages on the HTC and I only received and replied to three on the iPhone. Admittedly, I did reboot the HTC yesterday lunchtime not realising it would reset the battery stats (yes, i'm an idiot) but so far, I have 23% battery left and took it off charge on Monday morning, so approaching 48 hours with just over 3 hours screen on time in total during that time. My iPhone died last night at about 11pm, so nearly ten hours ago. When my next HTC charge cycle ends I will post up a screenshot to prove it.

Removable battery? Never cared for one and don't care for one now. I've not read one review where the battery is stated as being poor so far, so i will read the Techradar one and see what they say. Interesting though that every single other review I have read has rated the battery from average to excellent though, showing that every professional reviewer uses their phone differently and do not have a standardised test between them. So one review saying the battery is poor is completely true for that reviewer and another reviewer saying the battery is excellent is equally as true.

For me, the battery is outstanding and the whole phone, screen, design, feel, build materials, build quality and UI are far and away better than my current S2 and definitely better than the POS Galaxy S3 I owned. Remember, this is a subjective opinion and I am not stating my experiences are true across the board but purchases like this are swayed by our experiences in the past. My experience of the S3 was enough to colour my judgement of the S4 but not enough to discount it totally though. I would have considered an S4 if the HTC hadn't just blown me away in every single way.

Sorry, I'd rather have a removable battery. Never needed a curved case before, and I don't need one now.

But the curved back means 4mm edges, the phone feels epicly thin and very strong!

Even if it has decent battery life, I would like the option to swap it out instead of waiting for it to charge and have the option for extended batteries.

That HTC is putting the finish of their hardware over the utility of the phone is a little too Applesque for my taste.

I don't ever recall a time i had actually wanted to put an extended battery on my note 2,gs3,htc one, one x +, or evo lte. All got through the day with ease.

I don't know I think the HTC one will be an excellent phone and option for a lot of people. Same as the s4 will be excellent for certain types. To me HTC has hit the target that they aimed at and in the process created a beautiful phone with elegant software and we'll thought out feature set. No it may not pack every single feature the S4 has, but does it need to. The battery is also marginally smaller but do you think it will matter when the s4 is clocked higher with a larger display.

FWIW, S Beam uses NFC to initiate a much faster Wifi Direct connection. Big difference than a straight NFC transfer.
So now we're going to start getting all "technical" here. I see how it's gonna be now, so fine! It's on like Donkey Kong!

Honestly, as long as it doesn't have the reboot issues the 3VO had when it got ICS then I won't have any fault with it after everything else I've read about it.

Pretty sure there's been plenty of reviews stating the battery life is just fine. I think everyone get's a little preemptively paranoid about batteries going bad as well.

I recently retired my atrix which had a removable battery. Never needed a spare and I'm a heavy user who had that phone for 2 years. It also had an SD card which I didn't actually need and I'm a music lover too. The 2 big storage killers are movies and games, both of which I always use my tablet for.

My aversion to both of the phones in this thread is that I don't find any of the features in touch wiz or sense useful at all for me. I'd never use them and it'd be a waste, coupled with the apps added by both the manufacturer and the carriers that I don't find useful. I'd rather have the option to install what I want from Play instead

That is a far more legitimate reason to pass on a phone! The people saying they wouldn't be able to function without a removable battery and sd card are being over dramatic. Again though, if you don't like the phone, more power to you, don't buy it! haha

Except that's where you're wrong. By designing the handset with a sealed battery, they make it more ergonomic for the user holding it. The phones components are stacked to allow for a comfortably rounded back that is easier and more comfortable to hold. If they had used a removable battery, that wouldn't be possible.

He's wrong because his opinion differs from yours? Nothing he said in that post was stated as fact. He's not wrong because you don't mind having non removeable batteries.

Here is testing on the S4's battery life, which apparently is game changing:

Samsung Galaxy S4 extensive battery tests are out: average users could use it for three days without charging

Here is the One's camera struggling to compete with year old phones, let alone the S4 or next iPhone:

Camera comparison: HTC One vs Nokia Lumia 920 vs Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S III vs Sony Xperia Z vs Google Nexus 4

HTC needed a game changer to stop its downward spiral and it's really hard to see how the One will accomplish that when it fails to stand out at anything except a nice aluminium frame. I think HTC missed the mark by emphasizing the outer shell instead of the performance (camera, battery) and software. People don't buy iPhones because they look and feel nice. They buy them because they work quickly, smoothly, has a huge ecosystem and because the camera is good enough that most people leave their cameras home for most occasions. Sammy appears to have learned this lesson and is thriving.

Ok.... go buy an S4 then. Samsung is all about the media hype. The S4 has some cool new gimmick features, but after all the hype leading up to the announcement, I expected something much more spectacular. Not a phone that looks like an S3 or a Note with some new gimmicks. Enjoy your Galaxy Same as be 4.

If it's "all about media hype" why do Galaxy phones perform so well compared to other flagship phones? {face palm}

Not that this feature is new for the s4 but as someone who recently switched from HTC to samsung I really like sbeam a lot. And with the s4 I think air view, or whatever they call it, will be a really nice feature people will actually use.

Um? S Beam is not new. Android Beam had existed for a long time prior to S Beam. NFC on Android phones, even longer than S Beam.

If HTC would have used a removable battery, the choice for Samsung wouldn't be so darn easy.

Oh well, at least it looks cool even if it'll die after half a day.

If my 2100 mAh Nexus 4 can last a day and a half, I think the 2300 mAh One can last longer than half a day.

Is the battery really that small? Lol.

My phone has a 3100mah removeable battery. Not sure why I'd want to take such an enormous leap backwards.

Anyway, forget the tiny battery. The camera is 4mp!

Oh well, at least the hardware is fancy!
