HTC One - Wifi problem connecting?

Many, many, many, thanks to muerth and Hanna!

I registered just to thank you both for helping me solve this problem. This worked immediately.

I can't believe people have been struggling with this for so long. So annoying.

These tips had worked for a little while, but every so often I still get the issue of my phone continuously connecting and disconnecting to the WiFi network at my house, at friends houses, at work, school, etc. I have my frequency band to 2.4 GHz. My phone is renamed to HTC One. For a little bit I even tried HTC One SV (as that is my phone model). Still no success in getting to to stay connected. The connection would last for about an hour and if I stop using my phone for an extended period of time or open an internet required app after some time on sleep mode, the WiFi signal hops into connecting and disconnecting again. I'm looking for a way to permanently end this cycle. When I connect to WiFi I wish to stay on it.

For now I have been temporarily fixing the issue with forgetting the network, turning off WiFi, restarting phone, checking that frequency band and name are still 2.4 and HTC One (I've found it sometimes reverts to auto frequency), then turning WiFi back on and connecting again. This is a pain to do a few times every day though.

It seemed like I had tried every trick in the book for this problem, but nothing was working -- including resetting my modem and router; and changing the device name independently.

It was not until I did the following two suggestions that it begun working:

1) Change the name on the device to HTC One, and power off wifi on phone
2) Reset home network (modem and router), and the phone, as well.

The two combined suggestions fixed my problem right away.

Finally found a fix. Change the DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8
Go to "Settings"
Select "Wi-Fi"
Press and hold the network you're connected to
Select "Modify Network"
Select "Show Advanced Options"
Change IP settings to "Static"
Change DNS1 to 8.8.8.8
Should work just fine. Even faster than before.

OMG this worked! I've tried all kinds of things and this really worked!. After HOURS of searching! Thank you so so much!!!!!:D

WIFI option seems disabled in my htc desire 501, i am not able to switch it on,also in the wifi menu option i could open only advanced settings, how to fix this?,also i am not able to synchnz. my phone with my email id as wifi is not working.:-\

just wondering if you found out the problem for the phone, about internet not loading up. Even though you have an internet connection and wifi

I never found a solution to my WiFi problem, but mine was hanging and what ended up happening was I sent it into HTC and found out the motherboard was going. So if anyone is having that issue where you try to activate WiFi but it just hangs on the screen when you push it to turn it on, that's what it is.

Good one!

This post prompted me to play around my wifi modem/router.

Although not desirable, I've disabled my wireless security which has allowed my HTC One M7 to connect to the wifi network.

All the other workarounds mentioned previously did NOT work for me (wifi direct rename; factory reset; recover and reset firmware), but this proves me HTC One still connects to my wifi.

yaya friend , i also have a same problem with u ,until now ur phone still got this problem ?? =(
why my HTC One M8 after on the wifi, the wifi light keep on and off automatically ?

THANK YOU!! I have been dealing with this problem for weeks but only on my home network. No other devices had any problems and of course, all the IPhone users in the house were making fun at my expense. We were about to replace the wireless router! Thanks again!!

I think I found the real problem of WiFi issue on Htc One phones... If you played with Wi-Fi direct to connect with other phone then this is the case.

Go to WiFi, push the three dots upper right, click on Wi-Fi Direct, then check saved groups (bottom) if there are any groups delete them.

Don't forget to do that to all phones connected to your WiFi at that moment, because one phone tries to connect with your phone WiFi and blocks it to go on the internet.

That's why renaming the phone worked in some cases.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

Best regards, MXDOSE.com

Hi,

I am having the exact same issue.
Did you ever manage to solve your problem?

WIFI option seems disabled in my htc desire 501, i am not able to switch it on,also in the wifi menu option i could open only advanced settings, how to fix this?,also i am not able to synchnz. my phone with my email id as wifi is not working.:-\

Thank you. I have tried everything on here with no luck but changing the DNS settings finally worked! Created account just to thank you!

Hi, so i had the same/similar issue(Authentication problem) however i am using the HTC 816. And in my case what i found out was in wifi direct, dont rename ur device at all. what ever name was there(whether you put it there or not). make note of it then delete it and just press okay. the device will give it self a name made up of numbers and letters etc. save that and restart the phone. That fixed my authentication problem.

Renamed my HTC One M9 - to HTC One, didnt work. So I also restarted the Modem. I now can connect, thanks for all the help!

I had the same issues right after I updated my HTC One to 4.3 not connecting to wifi. I ended up calling HTC tech support and this is what they had me do and it seemed to work.

Go to Settings>Wifi>Advance (top right)>Wifi Frequency band and select 2.4 HGz only.

1. Hold power button and shut down phone.
2. Once the phone is shut down, hold the volume down button then press power button for approx. 3 seconds and let go.
3. You will see a white screen, using the volume buttons for up/down and power to select: scroll to Recovery and press power. The screen should be black.
4. Now press the volume up then power button for approx. 3 seconds and you should see a black screen with blue lettering and a red triangle in the center.
5. Scroll down using the volume down and select Wipe Cache Partition. At the bottom will say Cache wipe complete in yellow.
6. Press power button selecting Reboot System Now. Phone will reboot and should be working. Try to connect to wifi.

Hope this works, if not then call HTC using a different phone to troubleshoot.

~does this work for htc m one 9 as well?
