This might be a stupid question but never mind - how likely are HTC to bring out a + version as they did with the OneX?

I'm a month or two from finally getting away from my S2 (love the thing but not getting a two year contract again) and even though not having a removable battery is putting me off, I still can't look past the One for my new device as I love the build quality, camera features and hate Touchwiz bloat.

My decision would be a lot easier though if I knew that an upgraded version with a bigger battery would be coming and I'd be willing to wait for that but is there any chance of it happening or was the OneX+ simply a necessary reaction to big criticisms of the OneX that don't exist on the One?

Wullie, I can only answer from MY own experience, but I'll try to help. I am a light to moderate user of the phone. I might check emails occasionally, take a couple of calls, use the web if I need information, listen to music for an hour while mowing the lawn, etc. I never play games, stream anything, etc. With that use, I am NEVER below 60% when I plug in at the end of the day, and this phone is only one week old, so the battery isn't even close to optimal performance, yet. If you are a moderate user, I guarantee the battery is more than adequate. The ONLY people I've seen griping about the battery performance are those who live and die with their phone in their hand. If that's you, indeed, you might want to consider the S4 (or alternatives), or using a Mophie pack for the One.

Either way, good luck with your decision. The One is a sweet phone and I am definitely NOT disappointed in it!

Yeah that might be me living with it in my hand tbh. I use it a lot for browsing and texting during the day (still only two hours screen on though) and usually an hour of podcasts (downloaded, not streamed). I unplug at 7 and by getting home at 4.30, it's usually either already swapped out or close to death. The S2 has a rubbish battery though and this thing is chock full of apps. I stopped worrying about battery efficiency when I got my spare.

It's the days where I'll be out for a long time using Maps or whatever that worry me most, when I'm unable to charge.

I think you're right, the S4 would give me much more peace of mind - I just wish I could feel more excited about it. Might simply be a case of having to carry an external charger so I can have all these cool features on the One!

That's if HTC don't put out a shiny One+ of course!

Spot-on. I just couldn't get excited about the S4, and I really thought I was going in that direction. I even watched then entire unveiling they did from NYC, because I was thinking "This is my new phone-to-be!" When I held it (especially next to the One), I was completely underwhelmed.

You could always go with the Mophie pack. Those should get ANYONE through a tough day!

It would be extremely dumb for HTC to do a refresh of this phone like they did with the OneX, their whole game plan is one device on all carriers.

Its not impossible that we'll end up with a "One+", but I really doubt we will.

I highly doubt HTC will pull a One+ in 2013. They made the One as thin and solid as possible, leaving no room to "plus" it if you will. For example, what would the One+ have? A larger battery? Unlikely, as it wouldn't fit in the existing package. The Snapdragon 800? Again, would it fit, and would the current footprint be able to handle the heat, power-draw, etc.? Would it have a better screen? That's virtually impossible. The One already has the best screen. So what then? What could they do to "plus" it? HTC stated at the One media event that they weren't going to be doing again what they did in 2012. The One is their flagship, it will receive timely updates, and it will not be trumped by anything out of HTC's labs anytime soon. That last part is my two cents.

The S4 isn't getting much better battery life and on some functions worse. I live with my phone in my hand all day and I get 9-11 hours minimum. And that's tons of texting, streaming, and web browsing. Power saver makes the battery go on and on with 0 noticible performance sacrifice. The phone is perfect in every sense of the word. And Sense 5 kills the touchwiz UI. Fact.

There were already talks of a sequel to the Butterfly recently. It wouldn't be that crazy if HTC did it again and had a One+ superphone later this year. Last year they had the One X. DNA/Butterfly and One X+. Butterfly sequel has been talked about. I'm thinking Butterfly 2 with HTC One design language and beefier specs.

I'm in the U.S., and I still believe Verizon will be getting some form of the One, modified and manipulated for Big Red's ego of course. And it may very well have an SD800, 64GB, etc., but will it be available on any other global carriers and will it be called the One+? I doubt it. Verizon is the largest carrier in the States and can demand and receive it's own variation. But I won't consider it a One+ or feel guilty for having bought a One "early" if that plussed phone doesn't show up on any other carriers, and I just don't think it will.
