Eventually yes HTC will release an official update

There's no guarantee they'll update. The Eris still uses an even older version of Sense than the Dinc does, correct?

I'll agree here. Rooting is your best bet if you want the new version.

Skyraider sense has it. It is a great rom. I have not found any bugs with it. If you are rooted, give it a try.

I would only root if you feel comfortable doing so and if you do make sure you read up on it. Most of the mistakes happen when people rush or don't read all the directions. Like stated above SkyRaider has some of the new features of the HTC update and Desire Z has a little more. If you have any questions about rooting ask in the hacks forum there are some very helpful people there.

Man, it seems like all of the HTC update on their phone haha. I just came across this same topic in the EVO section and I'll just copy and paste my response.

From what i am aware of this will most likely not happen unless they are able to optimize the size of the file. It is a big file and would hog a lot of your resources. Rom developers are able to trim the fat (metaphorically speaking) since they are optimizing it to the best of their ability and taking out a lot of the bloatware that Sprint puts on it as well as optimizing the images and other software things.

After using the DInc does Desire Z rom, I must say that it is really nice and I love the flip clock. Also the added themes give it the ability to customize the look without having to flash a theme. Lets cross our fingers and hope that HTC releases it for all of their current top devices.

They have to let custom
UIs because its open source and if they did not give that option then it wouldn't be open source.

On the flipside, android would be more open if oems released the code for their interfaces, but I guess that's not an andrid problem, that's all oem.

That will never happen. Manufacturers would never agree to that. Custom UIs is how they differentiate and market their products.

Do they not? I know HTC released the Incredible source code, but I don't know what they are leaving out. I thought it was just some proprietary bits. I understood that the licensing was such that they had to release the source of whatever they augmented or modified. That's generally how open source works.
