HTC stock messaging notification

How do I turn on the popup notifications for the stock messaging app on lollipop? The one that pops up when the phone is in use. Works for other apps like Hangouts. Am I missing where this setting is?

I think the popup only work on certain apps...

Apps have to be designed to take advantage of pop-up notifications. My guess is HTC will redesign their Messaging app to take advantage of this in Sense 7 (which will presumably be unveiled with the One M9 on March 1).

If you want advanced popup with many options, try this, it has many useful features for sms and calls, like reminder, blocking, ringing in silent mode etc.

I hadn't realised this had to be coded into apps. Thought it was a standard lollipop feature? Seems strange that htc wouldn't add it in
