HTC Sync for mac

I have to agree with the OP even though I use a hosted Exchange account, so I don't really need HTC Sync on my Mac. sillyshyme: have you considered switching everything over to Gmail?

I sent all my contacts from mac mail to gmail as vcards. Now I just use gmail and google calendar. So much easier.

Why no sync for mac? Because Windows has 90-95% of the market. There going to support the platform with the most people to cover the most people possible.

Well that's the obvious reason, of course, but seriously, in today's market, with a company as large as HTC, their should be a mac version. There is for blackberry.
As a side note: You should think about boot camp and Windows 7. I use it and it's great for all the things my mac can't do, or can do but takes longer.

Then why did RIM make a Mac desktop manager? Why does anyone write any programs for Mac? It's because even though they make up a smaller percentage of the entire market, they still amount to millions of users and still very profitable market (and growing).

Also, if I were Google, HTC, Moto etc, any company that will be going head to head with Apple as the iPhone comes to more carriers, I'd do everything possible to keep people happy with Android so they don't jump ship to the iPhone. Plus I'm sure the Google boys would be happy to annoy Jobs by having their Android program running on his computers.

Even though I am pretty well synced up using Google, I still would like to have a D.M. like Blackberry has. It's not just for syncing your calendar and contacts, you can add/remove apps, back-up and restore to a previous state if you need to, and download your media. Even using Google, you still need to hook up to your computer for your media.

Doubletwist does a really nice job of using an iTunes like interface. Bonus is you get your music DRM free from Amazon. I stopped using the mobileme services for one simple reason: money. Google does the same things for free and they do them well. Gmail, Picassa, Google Docs, easily replaced mobileme services for me.

I've recently seen a few articles and blogs saying that Apple needs to make MobileMe free if they are going to compete with Google.:

To compete with Google, Apple has to make Mobile Me free - Sachin's Posterous

Sounds good to me.

Your right its not like mac platform is getting smaller by any means. But it does make more sense to go with windows, that is where most of the money is. Then go for the smaller market. It's the same thing with Android and WebOS, every one is going to right programs for android because it has a larger market then WebOS.

I don't use RIM devices and what not. But I heard that they made a desktop manager for windows a LONG time ago and they just now got the mac version out.

Well in your original post you imply that it only makes sense for them to support Windows since they make up the largest share of the market. And you are looking at this from a very narrow Mac vs PC point of view. Read the rest of my post to see how this involves much more than that. If you want to take customers from Apple (who will be coming soon to a provider near you) or hold on to the ones you already have, you can't ignore the Mac Heads.

I am also pretty disappointed that there's not even optional Mac support, the only computers in my house are Macs! I'd like to take advantage of the sync features, I hope they release an update or an app or something that at least makes limited sync functionality possible.

Yea I do agree with bigk tho that if they do make a desktop manager, it'll probably be for PC's first and as usual we'll be later rather than sooner. But we're used to that anyway.

There's really no need for HTC sync on the mac, because if you have 10.5 or 10.6, everything already syncs beautifully with google apps. Set up your GMAIL to read as IMAP through mail.app, Address Book already can sync to google contacts, and iCal syncs with google calendar. Grab yourself a free dropbox account and can do everything the iPhone does, over the air, and without paying $99/year for mobileme.

Apple's market share is growing constantly on the desktop, especially for home use. Sure, they're still a minority, especially if you include business purchasing, but Mac OS is definitely growing. Look at college students. More than half of them are using Macs. The wind is blowing in the direction of Mac OS. Say what you will about Apple and their repressive app store, but it's pretty shortsighted to ignore the Mac OS. It isn't 2001 anymore.

That is not a correct number. Plus Mac owners are a desirable demographic.

Repressive app store? Puh-lease. Google doesn't allow just anything either. As an IT Consultant I have seen Macs issued at Google, which has just dropped Windows entirely, Cisco, Motorola, Oracle, and many other companies. Every IT Architect I know prefers Macs over Windows by a wide margin over whatever warmed over mediocre version of Windows Microsoft is currently offering.

I would bet most Mac owners are much more likely to own an iPhone than an Android phone (I am not one of them, I have a mac and my Inc). People who buy mac's are more likely to "drink the kool-aid" and buy everything Apple. If it made business sense, I bet HTC would do it.

Until they do, use doubleTwist or TuneSync.

Seriously

No user wants to go around his/her ear to get to his/her nose. I don't want to use gmail or another sync-a-ma-thing when I have perfectly capable hardware and software that does the exact same thing. Why make a copy of the original?
What's a brotha got to do to get a lap dance?

Really Seth, really?
