HTC Thunderbolt becomes part of ICS test program

Nah, with unlimited data I don't need to worry about it.

I don't remember anyone talking about getting the previous OTAs over WiFi when they came out. Also, not sure how Verizon would know your phone needed the update unless it was hooked to their service. If it's just using WiFi, Verizon wouldn't see it on the network and therefore would not send the OTA to it.

Ive got a ACER Tablet and I use it with WiFi only and get Updates for that. My understanding was that the Updates come from the manufacturer and that Verizon monitors them. Somebudy told me that so long as you have a conection to the internet you shoudl be able to DL the update because the server it looks for is the same one no mater how you conect to it (VZW's Data plan or your own WiFi from home) On the same thought somebudy else told me that the OTA's are only avalable from VZW and there network and can't be be goten uless your conected to them (Using an activated device) So realy inobudy seems to know LOL. I guess Ill find out IF we ever do get ICS. I supose I can re Activate the Phone get the Update then Re Activate My Max if it comes down to it.:p

I have a wifi only OG Droid and received an update about a month ago. Talk about lag! It takes about 10 seconds just to swipe from one page to another! I'd root it if I thought it would speed it up. With google voice and wifi everywhere i go it is actually a functional phone but too slow ti use apps or internet.

Did any of the "somebudy" (somebody?) you talked to work for HTC or Verizon?

Hardware constraints? 1ghz processor, 756mb ram not good enough? Damn. That sounds good enough for me. Since sense 4.0 is supposed to be lighter, or less cluttered. Back to basics sense. So it should work great on tbolt right?

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Yes the Tbolt is a capable device but Sense doesn't have 756mb ram to work with because of other apps and processes using ram. Sense 4.0 is a better fit for phones that have dual core processors which generally have more ram, i.e. the Rezound.

If any of you follow Htc on Google+, they already confirmed on February 17th, that the Thunderbolt would get ICS

I am not replying to what you said. I just want to say your photo of you with your pregnant wife is so CUTE and SWEET Congrats on your new arrival to come

my ics will come from developers. then i can revert to gb if i dont like it

This looks like the same thing Motorola does with their updates. I was in their test groups for soak testing and some of their methods did look really sketch and slightly unprofessional but it definitely was legit. I would say however, that I would not trust this until people in the program show proof of the update. It has already been confirmed from htc to be getting it so I would not worry and just wait for the ota to hit lol. HTC said it was going to get sense 3.5 on their Facebook page awhile back I believe. Also to bjboucher you get a cheap micro sim to full size sim adapter and pop you razr sim into the thunderbolt and get service it on it no problem and download the update and pit the sim back into your razr. I use my galaxy nexus sim in my thunderbolt all the time just to play around on it and I have it as a backup as well and will want this update. The sim swap does nothing to your account and is instant!

I think most of us knew that, but a testing phase of ICS and ICS being announced are two different things.

That is true. Xxw0lfxX didn't mention anything about the test phase though...just stated that the Tbolt is getting ICS from HTC via Google+. Like you said, we all knew that. Hence, the redundancy. If an opinion or some helpful info was offered, i'd be less of a shtickler about it.

Just give us a leak with working data for the devs...

My last post was misleading. Sorry. I have no problem with ICS (right now anyway). I am yet again befuddled with a post from somebody who is straying off topic. Posting a link to VZW website confirming ICS for Tbolt and other phones. We are waaaaay past that point. This thread is about a proposed test phase.

How do you figure this thread is about a proposed test phase? Really, this thread is about a rumor of a proposed test phase.

I was adding the official word from Verizon. Up until a couple hours ago all threads about ICS for the Thunderbolt were pure speculation. Without confirmation from Big Red, there's no way any of this was waaaaay past that point. Now you can discuss the original idea of a test phase knowing that ICS is actually going to happen.

Sorry if i sound like i'm venting, i'm not angry or anything. Redundancy is just a pet peeve. :p
Peet and Repeat were on a boat. Peet fell off. Who's left?

We knew about ICS weeks ago.

I'm very sorry your brother fell out of a boat. You were clearly upset and didn't bother to read the title of this thread. :p Regardless of fact or rumor, it's a thread about a test (trial) phase for the Tbolt! Sheesh. Next, like blackjaguar said, we knew about this weeks ago. I posted in this thread (5 days ago) a link to a thread from *3weeks ago* with confirmation from HTC that the Tbolt is getting ICS. It wasn't pure (or even partial) speculation. I know our phones receive the actual update from the carriers, but if the *manufacturer* of my phone tells me (the public) that one of its products is getting an update, I'll believe it.
