HTC Thunderbolt Mini USB location(Is it going to be a problem?)

Yea that screwed this one up big time. Isn't the charging port on the bottom of pretty much EVERY phone except this one? Probably not but still it took some real talent to put it where it is now.
And this is one of only TWO phones i'm aware of with a kickstand... I want to go check if Evo has a plug in left side too.

It's on the top for the Fascinate. So is the headphone jack. I hate the location of those things. >.<

I prefer sides (or bottom, I guess), but I can see why it isn't ideal for the Thunderbolt..

If I'm correct you can put the EVO verticaly on the kickstand. So for video calls you can't stand it up and keep it charging.

My point is pros and cons for both.

Yes you can stand the Evo vertically. However, with the charger plugged in?
The answer would be no.

When I do Tango with my wife or my cousins on the mainland?
I just lay it in the Landscape position.

maybe thats becouse it doesn't use mini USB it uses Micro USB as almost all phones nowadays mini USB was replaced by Micro USB about 2 years ago maybe a lil longer

Your right!

My apology to all if there was another thread already

I gotta admit , As much as i like the ThunderBolt this pretty missed up by HTC (or as some people say : FAIL) , I guess they didn't notice that when they gave it a Go to production !

I honestly don't know who to point a finger at, but I have noticed this:

When it's a stupid idea, or something is wrong like the kickstand, or a spec is off, everyone says it is an "HTC design problem".

When someone talks about phone specs or a great upgrade (Read: Some poster claims the kickstand is "Far Superior" to the Evo) it's because Verizon designed it...

So, once and for all, who is responsible for the phone and phone specs? Was it designed by HTC and sold to VZW, or did Verizon spec a phone out and give to HTC to make it a reality? Me thinks HTC made a better Evo, shopped it around, and when HTC agreed to the LTE radio, VZW picked it up and branded it.

I wish videos could be displayed in upside down landscape position.... just like the way browser reorients.

Ok If the TB native browser is similar to the EVO?

The only video I could watch in reverse landscape(turning the evo clockwise) mode was Youtube.

However, with the Youtube android app?videos were only displayed in regular landscape view.

When I tried playing videos from CNN and ESPN?
The pages could be viewed in reverse landscape, however, once the video started it went(180 degree turn) right to regular landscape view.

FWIW, Sprint TV could only be viewed in regular landscape mode.

I wouldn't want to watch a video in vertical. It would be tiny since vids are shot for widescreen. FWIW, Sprint TV now has full episodes of programs. I was watching The Office at work last night because we lost Dish for some reason or other. I probably watched 6+ hours of stuff last night. I wonder how much data that was, and how much it would cost on tiered...

Is it a good location? No.

But for me I really don't touch my phone when it is charging and I'm not big on multimedia on my phone currently. Really it is what it is. As long as the port doesnt break, it's a success to me.

You know I was like you when the Evo first came out.
I was like why would you need a kick stand on a phone for?
other than to watch videos? But you know what?
After some time.I personally think the kickstand is one of the Evo's better features.

I can be on my computer at work doing stuff and at the same time having a video chat with my wife via Tango. The kickstand
is like another bluetooth device,it literally makes my Evo a hands free device.

Once I am done video chatting? I'll go right to my media player and
and listen to music. All this while the Evo is plugged into my desktop
not having to worry about a dying battery.

Trust me once you get your TB? The kick stand will become an everyday
feature of your TB that you will always seem to use.;)

6 hours of streaming video?.

Well... if we use youtube as an example?

I've read that a standard youtube video stream is about 4-5 MB a minute give or take?

so for a low ball estimate?

4MBx60min = 240MB an hour

so 6 HR's times 240MB = 1440MB or 1.44GB
wow!

That could cost you some dough at the end of the month if you were on a
tiered plan at that rate(est 45GB).

Yea, I don't know what Sprint TV uses for data on their TV service...I used 27GB last month on my phone...that would have made the VZW accountants drool. I love Sprint.

Holy ****, that's a lot of data for a phone. I can see, based on your usage, where that comes from, though. I sure hope I can keep my unlimited when I get the tbolt, I plan on switching my Dish DVR to the sling model so I can catch up on tv shows while I'm at work, and I can see myself easily hitting the same number.

Wonder if the new throttling will apply to 4G even for those on the unlimited like new/upgraded 3G contracts.

Dang Fatal!

I pretty much surf the net as much as I can, watch videos, video chat,
pandora, sprint TV and I only used slightly over 11 GB's last month.

The second month after I got the Evo I did reach 15GB.

And I though I was a data whore?

You my friend must be sleeping with your Evo too?

I just hope Sprint doesn't implement a tiered system?

Spending 130.00 dollars a month for unlimited everything for 2 Evo's getting pricey!

I downloaded a lot of tunes, too...I have 4G where I'm at so yes, I use a LOT of data. Sprint TV, Pandora, You Tube, Music, etc...It adds up quick. Now if they could only work on the battery life in these things...If Sprint implemented a tired system, I'd go back to just using my phone for phone calls and email. I'd drop down to a feature phone. I'm not going to pay an exorbitant amount of money for data usage. Not when computers are around.
