HTC U11 Google Play Pauses on Screen Sleep

When my HTC U11 is updating apps through Google Play and my screen goes to sleep, it pauses the updating/installing process. I have every possible setting enabled/disabled to allow this not to happen, and I can't figure out why it keeps doing this. With my old HTC One, I had all the settings the same as I do with my U11, and apps would still update when my screen was on sleep/off. This also includes the same settings with my battery saver app. There is nothing set with it either which would prevent updating when my screen is off. Can anyone please shed some light on why this is happening? Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen with both wi-fi and mobile data? Do you have Restrict Background Data turned on in Settings>Data Usage, or the Data Saver feature turned on?

Hello, and thank you for the welcome. As a test, I turned off Wi-Fi so that it was only on data, and let the screen go to sleep while doing so. The same thing happened, so yes, it happens on both.

And no, I just checked, the background data settings are not restricted/data saver is set to off. This is really strange, and I hope I can figure out the issue with this.

This tells you that something you installed is probably causing the interference. Unfortunately, unless you already have an idea of which app might be the culprit, you'd have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away.

Ok, that's what I thought. How about just disabling them temporarily instead of uninstalling?

3rd party apps can't be disabled -- that's for system apps or preinstalled bloatware. You can use the app Greenify to "hibernate" an app (which is similar to disabling).

Just to give you an update, a couple of days later, I had a major system update, which took me from Nougat to Oreo (7 o 8.0), and after that, my Google Play apps are updating during screen sleep. So evidently, something was fixed with the OS upgrade. Thanks again for all of your help.
