HTC U11 or OnePlus 5?

I'm trying to decide the same thing. I've had the OP5 since a couple days after the preorder went live and I've been pretty happy with it. I've also used the S8+ and the G6, both of which were pretty good but I think I prefer the OP5 over them. I just got the U11 yesterday and so far I like it a lot. Camera is really good so far. Slightly better than the OP5 based on some comparison shots I've taken. Battery life seems to be on track to be really good, but it will take a few days to really get a feel for it. The OP5 is a tad narrower and lighter, but not by much. The only two very minor issues I have with the U11 so far are the fixed capacitive buttons and the fact that the LED notification light only shows red or green. Neither are that big of a deal, but I prefer the buttons to be swappable and I like using different colored LED notifications for different contacts in Textra.

So you would rather have a iphone 7 plus clone, a worse camera that has been proven and tested.
Well, if you can't see the screen, the rest doesn't much matter. The screen literally cannot be seen when it's in landscape mode if you are wearing polarized glasses. That's like getting a phone that stays shut off whenever you turn it sideways. That's just a non-starter. I don't have polarized glasses, but I knew anyone who does have polarized glasses who was looking for a phone, I would advise them to stay faaar away from the HTC.

I hear ya about the U11 led's. I've rooted my U11 and use button mapper to switch the buttons... I would like to play with the OP5 but I don't know anyone who has it. Small town USA here has none in any of the stores.

I would go for the HTC 11. But I love good sound quality and trust HTC more than OnePlus, to be honest.

$480 versus $650 is a substantial price difference for a cheapskate like me. But if the U11 goes on sale in the next 6 months and the 5 does not, the HTC starts to look much more attractive.

I have more patience than money.

They just announced the U11 with 6GB ram/128GB storage. I had been waiting on the OP5 but reviews have been mixed and what I hear about customer service and standing behind their product. Now its U11 or do I hold out for a Note 8? More money but I've always wanted one and could probably swing it right now if I really want to.
