HTC Vivid text notification issue

I had a text come thru lastnight. Once it came thru I 'cleared' it from the status bar. When I went to open it from the text message icon nothing was there. NO message. But I still have the # 1 on the icon like I have a new message. I want this gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
