Do it before it gets locked down.

Just did it on mine and afterwards realized I have a dead pixel. UGH!! I'm really hoping it doesn't get locked down by the time I exchange it...

EDIT: And... it's locked down. That was fast.

How did you notice you had a dead pixel? I loaded up an all white screen and I can't see anything. Hopefully I am OK. I also want to make sure I have no dead pixels before I unlock it. Unlocking it also wipes all data, right?

Usually they're easier to see with an all black screen, having said that, there's many apps on the play store that'll cycle a whole spectrum of colors to check for stuck pixels.

How does it work?

Select "other models" and it unlocks?

It gives you the instructions. Its very straightforward. Especially if you are already familiar with adb shell like I am.

Yup! You don't even need shell. It's just two fastboot commands! Easy peezy!

On another note, I exchanged my phone. No dead pixels and unlocked my second device. Sweet!

Just curious, do you think Verizon will gain the ability to shut down you guys' access to HTCDEV? I know Verizon is terrible about locking their devices down but I would think ultimately it's HTC's call.

The DNA was the same way. Unlockable at first and then that was shut down within a week. I am fairly positive the same thing will happen to the One. VZW probably hasn't submitted all the SKUs yet to be blacklisted from HTCDEV.

Wow, I didn't think Verizon had that much control over HTC. Guess I should never underestimate the overreach of the carrier lol

Re: HTCDEV Unlock DOES work.

So basically unlock it ASAP before they start locking them down? And if you don't get it in time, you're probably screwed?

I get mine tomorrow, so hopefully they haven't acted before then.

Re: HTCDEV Unlock DOES work.

Does this still work? I have mine since last night but didnt have time to do anything with it. Its still in the box all wrapped up...

Re: HTCDEV Unlock DOES work.

I got an Htc one unlock code from att before i had to switch service for work can that code work for this phone

The code is specific to the phone. When you run the fastboot command 'get token', it is getting it from that phone. You input that on HTCDEV and the HTC servers do their thing and they email you the unlock.bin (signed).

Think of it like a key. You can't use your old key (token) to unlock the new door (phone).

Re: HTCDEV Unlock DOES work.

After you unlocked (only) with HTCDEV (I assume not rooted as well?) did you notice any problems with camera functionality or HTC Sense or other HTC features?

Were you then able to delete (not just disable) 8 GB of installed Verizon bloatware?

Sacred to death of rooting process.

Thanks
