Has it occurred to anyone the timing of these new devices being announced and the timing of Sprint's changes to their Sprint Premier/upgrade program are suspect?

Me thinks a lot of Sprint customers are going to be pissed off when they find out they are no longer upgrade eligible after 4/1 and then both these devices drop.

And seriously, WTF is it about viewing angles that you people need? Are you lying flat doing yoga alongside your phone and just *need* to be able to look over and see the weather animations on the Sense widgets? I don't get it. When does one ever not want to look at their phone from off angles?

it has occurred to me about the new status changes with Sprint. That's why i shall buy an EVO on March 31 and wait the 30 days before swapping it out for the Nexus S 4G. hopefully it comes out within 30 days of the March 24th annoucement.

When they announced the EVO last year, wasn't it June before it was available?

Looks like it's time to put the Evo up for sale in anticipation of the Nexus S :D

You should try the latest CM7 RC2 on your Evo, that will give you a good feel for what a Nexus S would be like (on a nicer phone IMO, unless you really want NFC :) )

Loyalty does pay off sometimes (and I do only mean "sometimes").

That is true I've been with them going on 5yrs never late once and they are sliding me down to a silver member. But I just got off the phone with them and told them I want my upgrade due to me in June or else I'd leave. They gave me my upgrade pretty easily. I think Sprint will be doing away witht this soon because I see alot of good customers getting pissed over this.

I would like to know what so important to have Dual-core.... Can u guys explain me so i can understand why its so important to people..... I have been notice people been want to have Dual Core

And I hope it wont make by Samsung too Rather HTC

Dual core phones will have better battery life because two cores running at lower clock speeds will use less battery than single core phones. As higher clock speeds they will be much faster. Android can't yet take advantage of dual cores except certain games that get around this limitation. Dual core phones are more future proof if you intent to have it for two years and want to take advantage of dual core speed and battery life in the future. Dual core phones also seem to have newer much more advanced graphics chips.

Ok I may be way off base here, but I can't understand why everyone is saying it will be a 4G nexus S. The T-Mobile version does not have HSPA+. I don't believe that 4G is in the source tree yet (Wimax, HSPA+, or LTE). A Nexus phone gets updates from Google. If that is the case the phone would get updates from Samsung not Google, because Sammy would have to update the newest version to include Wimax support. We all know how Samsung does with updates...

That's just my theory. I hope I am completely wrong, because I would love a pure android phone with Wimax. :)

Samsung Captivate

As an owner of a samsung captivate on AT&T, I have to say I don't really agree with everyone's hatred of the hardware, I share the frustration with software updates, but not the hardware.

My captivate feels very well made, and I love the screen, I love that they include 16 gb onboard flash and how thin the phones are. The gps in the original galaxy s lines has issues yes, but from all of the reports I've read the gps issues in the upcoming galaxy 2 as well as newer galaxy S builds have been resolved.

At this point I'm not sure if my next phone will be an HTC or Samsung, but the samsung galaxy 2 looks pretty sweet, I have to say.
Besides, XDA is always around to help with lagging software updates.
and I honestly don't think I'll ever run a stock rom again, unless I get a google experience phone, but the nexus s was a big disappointment to me spec wise.
I need a SD card slot.

Eyecon82- **moderator edit** the Thunderbolt "is far superior to any phone on the market". WRONG. and u r with Sprint. The Thunderbolt is the SAME THING as the Evo 4g I've had since J

The EVO 4G and Thunderbolt are not the same. T-Bolt has 768mb of ram to the EVO's 512mb, the Snapdragon processor in the T-Bolt is faster and houses the Adreno 205 which is double the speed of the EVO's Adreno 200. Another difference is the LCD, the T-Bolt has a S-LCD while the EVO sports a regular LCD. OH and that big software difference of having Sense 2.0. :)

Not due for an upgrade for another year, thanks to their policy change. I guess I shall stick with my Evo for a bit.

My beef with the thunderbolt is that this is going to be the year of dual core processors. Getting a Thunderbolt is like buying last years technology, which in the mobile technology industry is something most die hard techy fans won't do. The Droid Bionic overshadows the Thunderbolt big time, if I was on Verizon, I would wait for it or the Galaxy S2 which I am sure will hit all 4 carriers just based on what Samsung did with the Galaxy S. The two things I always liked about the Galaxy S were the processor and the screen, compared to the Evo, it just seems like a much faster phone.

I too was disappointed with the specs of the Nexus S. The Galaxy S2 specs should have been the specs for the Nexus S. If that were the case, and Sprint were the first one to get it, people would be flocking to Sprint in droves, at least the tech guys that want their Android plain!

As far as 3d being gimmicky goes, sure, it's gimmicky, but it's fun to show off to people while it's new and "in", but most importantly it guarantees a beefy processor under the hood, and that's what's most important to me.

Yea the 3D is just for kicks but like Manny said it it guarantees a "beefy processor under the hood". So we can turn it off and have a regular beast of a phone.
Also i have a 3D TV and it would be nice to utilize my other toys hehe the only thing that annoys me is the fact that the 3D phones screen resolution is cut back during 3D use.

Will it be worth it to kill my current Sprint contract and pay the 60 bucks to get a new phone when these drop?

It might be Korrowan but id wait and see after the show on the 22nd. Even then we will have to wait for them to release the damn things too so mabey in june we will see something cool.

As I am in the same boat, my major concern with this strategy above is that when you go to return the EVO, that EVO sale and upgrade has effectively been cancelled.
Then when you go to purchase the Nexus S, if it comes in April, it will be after March 31st and the upgrade will not be available to you(us) per the new Premier terms.

Any opinions on this ?

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you upgrade every year and you are only eligible for the 1 year upgrade, it's the same as the 2 year eligibility with the only difference being that you spend 75 bucks more for the phone than you would with the 2 year eligibility. Now, I don't mean to sound like a snob, but that's not really that big of a deal. Spread that out over a 12 month period of pain and suffering with your old phone, factor in gadget envy you have to endure looking at your buddys kick ass device, the $6.25 I have to spend per month (75 divided by 12) is well worth it to me.

You don't get the subsidies at the 1yr mark. It's only $75 off the full price of the device. At 22 months you get either $150 off the full price OR the advertised price (new customer price) of the device, whichever is cheaper. The difference between 1yr and 22months is significant. Here's an example:

Evo Shift @ 1yr_$399.99-$75=$324.99

Evo Shift @ 2yr_$399.99-$150-$100(mail in rebate)=$149.99

Difference of $175. It's still not much when you spread it out over 12 months or whatever, but the problem is you don't have that option. You pay for it in full at the time of purchase.

Some phones like the Epic actually get you $200 off plus $100 MIR to get down to the $199 advertised price.

Hm, well, we will see what Sprint lands up charging this time around for a one year upgrade after the new changes take effect. I always though it was the same deal as the two year plus $75.
