A few weeks ago, I lost my Huawei Mate 9 phone. I now have a new Huawei Mate 10, and I've just logged into it, logged into Google etc, and want to restore the Google drive backup for that phone, as it backed up automatically until the day when I lost it.

However, I go into Google Drive, I can see the backup, but... the only option there is, is to delete the backup(!)

I bought the Mate 10 from China because I didn't want a Pro or Lite as they're not 16:9 phones and I don't like non-16:9 phones (I watch a LOT of Youtube vlogs) which doesn't make UK purchases easy at the moment, until the fad fades.

Every time I google the answer to this, it tells me the Google setup should help me find my list of previous devices and offer me a choice of restoring from one, but on this phone, I don't get that. I've tried searching for the last hour or two and only got nowhere fast, so I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

When you set up the new phone, it should have asked you if you wanted to restore. You should have said yes. Otherwise, just make sure that everything is set to sync and it should.

There used to be a Backups section, and a Restore choice in there - it's gone in Pie (and, I expect, in Oreo).

When you set up the new phone, it should have asked you if you wanted to restore.

Thanks for your reply. Based on a video I've seen for the process of setting up a new Android phone, that was the one bit it didn't give me. I tried a factory reset on it, but it still didn't give me the option.

I bought the phone from China (the only way I could get a Mate 10 that had a 16:9 screen) and so I guess that's one of the perils of doing so. I've installed a lot of the apps I had before, and so I guess I'll just need to manually get the home screen back to how I want it.

On the plus side, Gmail and Google Photos et al have sync'd so I stlil have everything in that respect, and it also includes the picture I accidentally took of the street just before I dropped my phone on a night out, and so I at least know that I didn't lose it in the club or takeaway beforehand, so that's a plus (insert crying emoji here)
