Huawei watch not displaying contact pictures

I have a Huawei watch paired to a Galaxy S7 edge. When receiving phone calls it does not display contact pictures. When looking at the missed call the picture is shown and when you go into contacts on the watch the pictures are also displayed. They are also properly displayed when receiving texts. It is just during calls that the pictures don't come up. Any ideas?
