I am locked out of my google account on my android phone.

I noticed the problem began when i accessed the gmail account my employer gave me, on the same computer I had already accessed my personal gmail account. Are you allowed more than 1 gmail account? I cannot access the Playstore or Chrome on my android phone any more, Please Help!

You can have virtually an unlimited number of Gmail accounts but what I suspect happened to you is they pulled your account for an infraction of the TOS agreement. There's a whole list of things they will pull your account for including but not limited to spam being sent from an account and illegal activities transpiring from an account. When they pull your account they pull everything, your Gmail, YouTube, play store Google maps, drive, everything. There's an appeal process and you should see a notice when you try to log that explains how to appeal.

Is going through the appeal process my only option for getting my gmail account back. Or can I just start a new one?

If there is nothing there that you want or need you can start a new one. Again you can virtually have as many as you'd like. Meanwhile though you should update and switch accounts on your device before you get locked out or anything happens. Here is how to switch accounts on your device.
