The size isn't an issue for me. I've had a note device before so this is fine. As with last year, they chose length over width to make the phone easier for most functions with one hand. I find a wider device more difficult for things like typing with one hand. That was the rationale for the M7. I was a little worried about the size before I bought it but the pros outweigh the cons for me with this device. After using so many phones the last few years I've come to the conclusion that I will dislike something about each one. So it's all about the user. This is not the device for everyone and neither is the S5, iPhone or anything else. Good thing is we all have choices and can use what we want based on our needs and what's important to us. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

So very much this! Intelligent post but sadly I doubt people will take it to heart. Seems to be human nature to want to be better than others or have something that you can shout to the world "Mine is better than the others."

Guys if you work out with a phablet strapped to your arm then you do look like a tool. If you are ok with that then cool more power to you. Everybody has to come to their own conclusions on how much weight we place on screen size desire versus style. That doesn't mean I am right and you are wrong.

So very much this! Intelligent post but sadly I doubt people will take it to heart. Seems to be human nature to want to be better than others or have something that you can shout to the world "Mine is better than the others."

This is spot on. I really wanted the M8 to be the perfect device for me . I'm not due an upgrade until July so I have time.

The design isn't perfect no matter how much people want it to be. For a 5" screen, it's big and it's heavy. It's also slippery. So while it's great to stare at, it's not the most functional design. They clearly get excited about their metal design because reviewers can't contain themselves when they talk about it. They even focused their marketing strategy on "asking the internet", which is hilarious. They got the reviewers excited again with the M8, but alienated a huge crowd from buying the phone because it'll be too close to phablet territory for a lot of people.

There's a lot of HTC apologists nowadays. I hope they're still around next year when this phone under performs yet again.

The picture shows a more significant problem.

Not only note 3 in the pic has a big bulky case, situated closer to the camera, the lightening in that picture darkens the non-screen portion of the phone, and draws attention to the fact that M8 screen is not even close the size of Noe 3's.

But that's the screen size. If you pay attention to the physical size, I am attaching a drawing below, you will notice, M8 is a big phone without a big screen. This is not a good way to design things.

Yea the phone is just way too big for the amount of screen real estate you get. Sorry there is no silver lining to this. That wasted HTC logo space doesn't help at all.

So by big people. I do mean that it is very close to phablet size. If you want an exercise arm band then you will probably have to find on that fits a Note and that is too big for me. Love the Zoolander pic.

It's really a shame that the lower bezel is so disproportinately large - the logo area is just wasted space (well, perceived wasted, i'm sure HTC needed to pack in all the guts and battery somehow, since they sacrificed width). It's really too bad - I wanted to like this phone and get one (to get back into the Android ecosystem) - but this isn't the device that will sway me.

My thoughts on the phone boil down to great phone that is not for me. I found the camera to entirely adequate. I think HTC is on the right track; they just picked the wrong mega pixel count. If they took the same approach with an 8 mega pixel sensor and added back the optical image stabilization then they would be on to something. The screen was beautiful. The speakers were awesome. Sense is very good and adds something to the experience. All that is great, but this thing is freaking huge. Anyone who takes this to the gym will look like a giant tool. I didn't think I was a small phone guy, but the Moto X has spoiled me. Are you giving up on the M8 and why are you?
