I am returning my HTC One (M8). Are you?

The m8 is wider, so whatever screen real estate you think your losing with the on screen buttons is made up on the width

Look how far the screen extends to the edge of the phone on the m8 compared to the m7. Way more bezel on the m7. Stop spreading lies...

..... and how useful that extra width is since as we all know, android apps all scroll horizontally. The extra width is useless to me.

The screens are lined up at the top.....look down at the bottom of the screens and then tell me you are seeing more screen area on the right.
(Actually, to add insult to injury the top of the M8 on the right is also a hair under the M7.

Wow, what a gigantic waste of a great opportunity here for HTC, people, I was debating myself between the M8 and the S5, try to justify what it's simply impossible to, but Camera, Huge Size for a 5" display and what it's showed on this pictures are simply unacceptable for a Flagship device following a great one like the M7, Shame on you HTC.

Ok, I will play.
M7 4.7" screen is 4.03" x 2.42"
M8 5" screen is 4.29" x 2.57" (as listed, including the onscreen button area)
We know that the height and width listed for the M7 are correct. And the width of the M8 is correct but it's the height that is in question.
Looking at the photos it shows the height of the M8 to be less than the M7 but since I cannot measure at the moment the difference in height let's call them even (even though we see the M8 to be shorter)
So now the M8 is 4.03" x 2.57" vs. the M7 at 4.03 x 2.42"
That makes the M8 about a 4.75" screen vs. the M7 which is 4.7"

I stand corrected, the M8 has a significantly larger useable screen space due to it's side being wider by .15" or 15/100th or 3/20th of an inch (go measure that....if you can, he he).
(Let's not forget, I gave the M8 the benefit of the doubt and called it even with the M7 in height even though we see it is not....hmmmm).

I own both devices and I have put them screen to screen. Trust me, the m8 is indeed wider. If you want to completely ignore facts based off the small amount of time you spent with it in a store, go ahead, just don't come on here and post it as fact.

Nobody a said anything about significantly larger useable screen size, 4.7 to 5 isn't that big of a difference anyway. The fact is that it does have a larger screen. Plain and simple. You don't like how they executed it, cool. Have fun not enjoying an awesome device!

You proved my post by doing the math, the screen is larger. You said it wasn't, that is a lie. No personal attacks, just stating facts. It's well established that you don't like the phone, it's well established I do. Those are the facts. If you took personal offense to my comments then I apologize, it was not my intention. I'm just trying to clarify to other people who might read your comments and conclude that the screen is the same size, which it isn't. A small increase is still an increase....

Glad to; I figured that my surprise over the screen issue would also be a surprise to others.
I posted my thoughts and findings, responded to like thoughts, questions and quotes.
If anything I have contributed has "enlightened" anyone, well then, time well spent.
And from what I've seen there have been plenty of likes, thanks and quotes.

Simple as that.

Your issue as well as others is that you bought the phone and any remark that questions your decision seems to threaten, when in fact it shouldn't.
I own a M7, DNA (not active) and a Note3, I drive a Tahoe, love literature.....and last but not least, am a Die Hard Seahawks fan.
Fire away, I am perfectly happy with the money I spend, time and choices I make. Strangers on a forum and their opinions are just that, strangers opinions.
Title your Threads "Only People Willing to Support My Decisions Respond" might make things a little easier for some of you.....or La La La I can't here you seems to work for some.

Always wondered why someone would hang around a message board after trying a product that they didn't care for .....

enlighten me...

Re: I am returning my M8. Are you?

Actually just about every site was hyping the device. Not to mention where did I say anywhere how I felt about the device is how everyone feels? I'm not buying either, so don't get your panties in a was because you like the one and someone else doesn't. Android users are getting as bad as apple users with defending their phones like it is their child.... Relax, I was simply stating how *I* felt after using both devices.. Sheesh

I was simply stating that all the hype is subjective. All the sites are stating their own opinion, not facts. I'm sorry if you took offense, didn't mean to come off that way.

To let others know what they didn't like. Personally, the I found the info about the screen size to be helpful and relevant to to me. It's pretty clear that for me, someone with the M7, there's very little reason to "upgrade" to the M8.

I'm gonna throw my opinion in, I believe that the m8 isn't really a substantial upgrade to the m7. I think the phone is way too tall for the amount of useable screen when the on screen buttons are displayed. I understand that there could be reasoning behind the bezel but it makes the phone undesirable because of the height to screen ratio. Also I would have liked a higher megapixel standard camera rather than 4 ultra pixels. So at least for me Im just fine with my m7.

Thread has been cleaned up and reopened. Silly bickering will not be tolerated. If you feel compelled to continue, take it to PMs so that the rest of the community does not have to be subjected to it. I also caution against taking this nonsense into other threads.

I suggest that those involved here take the opportunity to review the forum rules. Violations will be dealt with accordingly.

Exactly what I'm feeling. The increased screen size is completely eliminated by the implementation and the only major failing of the M7, the low mp camera, was not addressed.

I'll wait to see what other devices launch this year or maybe wait for the M9, my M7 is still doing just fine.

I don't have a problem with the size but the device is slippery. That will be remedied when I can find a dot view case for it.

That photo really hammers home what little screen real estate you get with the M8 compared to the M7. Battery life aside, the M8 is really a step down IMO. Essentially the same camera, heavier, larger, a bottom bezel that sticks out more. SMH.

Welp, I have my M8 and in coming from an EVO 4g LTE, it is a hefty phone but only visually. It is not heavy, fits nice in your hand and looks good on a counter, by it (better keep an eye on it)..Coming from my 2nd gen EVO, I'm hesitant to change but . . .ok, page six of the 'Getting Started' book I've never used before. Hmm, that's different. We shall see!

To me it came down to how I use the phone. The speakers, which are great, are not a value add to me. Therefore, having the top and bottom taken up by them, along with the HTC bezel row, and then the on screen buttons, create a needlessly large device for my use. For me the device is awkwardly tall and almost feels top heavy. Mine went back today and will use my Nexus 5 and iPhone 5s (work) until I decide on the G3, S5, or something else.

I think I mentioned earlier, I have decided my preference is full use of my mobile device one handed. Moto X is probably perfect size (would like some more power/better camera/better screen), but up to Nexus 5 I can handle.

Again just my opinions and usage patterns, but hopefully they help others with similar make an informed decision.

I agree with the Moto X being the perfect size for a phone.

I am still on the fence about making this purchase. Part of me really wants to, but part of me is hesitant ill just switch back to my iphone anyway lol.

Perhaps wait for the M8 mini? It'll be closer to the size you like...
