I am returning my HTC One (M8). Are you?

Well coming from a blackberry bold, this phone is 10000000000% better in terms of EVERYTHING!

I just don't like the height of the phone, esp when you have that stupid logo taking up all of the space that would have been needed to get a larger screen and keep the phone compact. But who knows, maybe to "fit" all that technology they "had" to make it taller and that's really all they could do. Thinking logically don't you think that with the millions and millions of dollars of R&D that if they 'could' have made it shorter, they would have?

Perhaps wait for the M8 mini? It'll be closer to the size you like...

I am hoping it is doesn't skimp too much on the specs. If it doesn't I will absolutely buy it. If it is another half-baked mini, I will have no interest.

Like I said before it was official and just rumored, the fact that they added on screen buttons and that black bezel while making the screen 5" is useless. It is essentially the same size screen as the M7, but oh wait, it now has even MORE wasted space. I really do not get their logic. What they did was pretty much the same as: 4.7+.4(the bottom black bezel)=5.1 5+.4+.3(on screen button wasted space)= 5.7. Essentially, the on screen buttons pretty much extend the bezel EVEN MORE than on the M7.

Logic missing much HTC?

I take it you've never used a Nexus device. Those onscreen buttons are not always present.

Yes I returned, but not because it's too big. I feel like it's too small; not the phone, but the screen (after coming from the Note 3). The device itself is not much smaller than the Note 3, but put them side by side and you'll see a big difference in usable screen real estate. It's a great phone, with solid speakers, but I prefer the 5.7 inch screen.

I just got my One today.

No way will I be returning it. It's a phenomenal device. Love the look of it, love the build, love the feel, the screen, the speakers, the UI, the camera samples I've taken so far. Everything about it is great.

I had the Xperia Z1, which is a giant of a phone, and the M8 is definitely more comfortable and easier to use than the Z1, so all these size issues people are having don't bother me.

No but I can tell you right now I will sell it whenever Sony releases the Z2!

I typed this response with one hand. Without using the keyboard shrinked for one hand at that.

Sent via Note 3

Yea the phone is just way too big for the amount of screen real estate you get. Sorry there is no silver lining to this. That wasted HTC logo space doesn't help at all.

Really? How about the thought the bezel isn't there just for the logo, but what is actually underneath?
Do you really think HTC would make the phone that much taller without a good technical reason?

Why count they design it without that stupid bar though? I can't have been impossible.

HTC staff literally said in interviews that it was impossible to shrink the bezels to fit everything that they put into the phone. Next year, it may be possible, but to get all that they wanted to put in the M8 to fit, the bezel had to stay.

I two have played with the m8 and don't fill it's that big at all I rock a LG pro im not sure how you play with a phone at the store and read about it on line and still not realize then you get it home that it's to big for you??

I have used a nexus device. I had the nexus 4, and nexus 5 actually. They aren't present during some games, and videos. They are there every other daily task you do so 95% of the time, they are wasting space.

How would you determine if the M8 is a poorly performing phone? Is it merely sales figures?

Sales figures. Horrendous marketing campaigns. Abysmal camera. And for all the glory the design gets, for the mass market, it's not that great. It's tall, it's slippery, and not everyone is enamored with metal because of how easily it scratches and dents.

That's why I feel it'll be doomed to repeat last year.

And you buy that? You don't think the fact that they wanted an HTC logo on the front had anything to do with it? If they're really the design conscious company they claim to be, they could have figured it out.

Last year's device was profitable. I'm guessing that's exactly what they want to repeat.

So to clarify, some people don't like this phone and they want you to not like it with them. Some people are worried about what a bunch of nobodies at the gym will think of them for carrying it. And a still larger group who read a lot of articles about phones are sure HTC could have done a much better job engineering this phone and are building extensive arguments to make you understand.

And then there are the people who like the M8 and have no urge to waste a moment arguing about it.
