I can't connect my Nexus 5 to my home WiFi, should I return it?

I know this is an old thread but it may contain the answers I'm looking for. My nexus 5 used to connect to my parents WiFi perfectly fine then suddenly it goes from "connecting" to "saved" without connecting. And sometimes I get a authentication problem. I've exhausted everything on my phone trying to correct it saved downgrading the OS. EVEN factory reset. Nothing worked. So I'm going to have to play with the router now. Everything else connects fine, except my nexus 5. However I do recall my boyfriend say his off brand phone (huwei or whatever) suddenly cannot connect anymore either. Perhaps it is the router. (Or i guess its a wifi broadcasting modem) Will try these tips. I have to call my internet provider and figure out how to get into the modems control. I wasn't here when they installed it and my parents don't know much when it comes to technology. (I'm not much better sadly)

Would it be something router related if it suddenly stopped working with my nexus after months of working fine? Firmware out of date or something like that?

I had this problem. In my case it was caused by a battery saving app that chose to save my battery by shutting down my WiFi. The problem was resolved when I uninstalled the battery saving app.

I had the Authentication error occurred problem on a brand new LG Nexus 5X with my home network, however it was able to connect to my other Android phone's hotspot without problems.

I managed to connect to my router by using the WPS Push Button setting in Wi-Fi Advanced settings on the Nexus (where you then have to click the button on the router for them to sync). (I of course had to skip the connection during initial setup (I did use my Android hotspot though), and then do the WPS after that (only way to access the Wi-Fi settings I think))
