I can't take it anymore, I'm going to go back to the Pixel 2 XL

Yeah....do it...do it
Stop it you bad influence you. Lol

But I did play around with the 2 XL at Best buy. The blue shift was minimal to me and definitely not a deal breaker. I downloaded a grey wallpaper to look for burn-in on the display unit and didn't see any. Colors looked fine (I use my Pixel 2 set to "natural" anyway). The only thing I don't know about is this new thing with the blotchy blacks.

It's in my cart on Google all queued up and ready to be ordered and shipped to my hotel. Lol

Oh, its a refinement issue with the LG panel. Basically, if the screen's brightness setting is set down near its floor, the dynamic range of the darkest parts of, say, a video, is fairly limited... you see a lot of black rather than shades. Now... I can easily pull up a video to see this and yes, you lose some of that dynamic range.

But...

Personally, I tend not to watch videos with the brightness cranked way down low... usually its the exact opposite. If I am in a dark room and watching a video, I've always turned the brightness way above where I normally would have it otherwise. Gives a cinematic experience.

The other thing... again, the screen has to be at a really low brightness level... if you scroll back and forth black regions kind of smear a bit, basically there's a little lag in 'filling' in the region with color. I went looking for it, and indeed found it, but I had to set the brightness at a level I also never bother to use.

Dunno man... of all the inherent 'issues' the 2 XL's screen has, I pretty much have to go out of my way them (except the burn thing, I see zero of that).

Not seeing any of the aforementioned issues but I'm told that I'm in denile.

So I should be go with adaptive brightness then huh as that's what I use exclusively on all devices.

Sucks that you personally had a bad experience with the Note 8. I think a lot of people like he S Pen and the convenience of a headphone jack instead of a flimsy dongle. And yes, nobody needs the option for more storage, what a silly concept.

Cracks me up when I hear people say a "flimsy dongle" as if the wire it's attached to is rigid and sturdy. I will never understand the issue with using a dongle really I won't. If I used wires, I'd just buy a dongle for each device that I was connecting and I'd never take it off, especially if I'm only connecting said device to my Pixel. It's just a dopey argument.

Yep.. I'm kind of over Samsung software. I value updates so that will outweigh the features Samsung had. To be honest the only true Samsung feature I miss is Samsung Pay.

Kind of random but did you get an iPhone X as well? I'm so torn with the whole iOS vs. android..I was so stoked when the pixel 2 launched and cancelled my preorder due to the blue tint and sub par display but I miss the days when I had my pixel gen 1

Your rocking the pixel and the iPhone X? I've seen you over in imore. I decided to migrate over to AC and see how the pixel XL 2 is doing because I almost regret cancelling my order

I do have the iPhone X but it's in my sock drawer at the moment. I'm starting to become afraid that it's time to spend some QT with Google the way that I spent the last 18 months or so with an iPhone.

I'm starting to think the same as you I just don't know if I can function without iMessage/FaceTime being my entire family uses it

I was right there with you. I got over iMessage pretty quickly. I never used FaceTime much but I wanted it for times like now when I'm away and want to see my wife and son. But, the wife installed Google Duo and it worked well tonight so problem solved. I wasn't using Animoji on my X so...

I see iPhone Xs selling for around 1100 on Swappa. That's a nice chunk of change toward something. Lol

Did you go with the pixel XL 2? I fell in love with the form factor on the X, I know the XL 2 is a large device.

I don't call that denial.. I just call it not caring. Like I mentioned, I have to go looking for in, using my phone in a way I'll never use in day to day.

So if you spend your evenings in a dark room watching an hour long video of a grey screen at the lowest brightness setting while holding the phone at a 45 degree angle... This isn't the phone for you.

I am in a bit of a pickle. My android phone of choice at the moment is currently the s8. I love the hardware but cant stand the "samsung ux" ( it will always be touchwiz to me) i miss having a cleaner version of Android but the cleaning options available to me all have their own issues.
The oneplus 5t has oxygen os and dash charging which is awesome but comes with a subpar camera with a bump and no ois , no water resistance, and no wireless charging.
The pixel 2 loses a headphone jack, has no wireless charging and still has a small 16:9 screen with bezels and is about the same size as the s8 but has stereo speakers and a better camera.
The essential phone gets cheaper every day and knda wanna get one because of the premium build quality but i wonder how much lower can it go?

Those bezels don't bother you? Especially after using the X??
Don't bother me at all. Like I said above, I've been on iOS for the past 18 months which means the 7 Plus and 8 Plus which have dang near identical bezels with no front facing speakers so...

As I've mentioned in other threads, I looked at a couple P2 XLs in Best Buy and neither appeared to be any worse than the Note8s on display. However, that isn't the reason for me going with the smaller P2. I had the Nexus 6p, and while I liked it, it was too large for me. I prefer not to have to keep shifting my grip to use a device one handed. And the 2 XL is about the same size as the 6p is, which is why i didn't go with it (also the reason I didn't go with the Pixel XL last year).

I won't lie, it's really great to have a larger screen for media content, but most of my device use is for things other than video viewing. That and I'm a little leery of LG mobile devices. I love their home electronics, but their mobile division seems to have more issues (random reboots for one). But I definitely get why people opt for the larger devices as well.

Na. I have tried iOS many times. I could live with it but it just isn't for me. I know the iPhone X will just be a few changes but still the same old iOS.

My main gripe? Notifications. I get a lot. I like to know what app is calling for attention by glancing at the top right versus diving into a "notification center" -- but that's just me :).
