I can't take it anymore, I'm going to go back to the Pixel 2 XL

I get it about the N8. I had one and used the N7 discount (had that and loved it at the time) by trading an old G4 in. Anyway, too tall, too wide and too many duplicate apps. However, I got the Pixel 2XL and I really like it but I've had two now with FPS issues and I have a second replacement on the way. Considering selling it since I bought a V30 that's new unsealed on Swappa. But... I am tempted to see if third time's a charm. oh, and the blue tint is terrible on this second phone. It's a crap shoot. Google admitted that the FPS has been an issue as well. Hope your phone works out!

I've been through 3 note 8s now and I've taken each one back or sold it. I just can't keep it I don't know what's wrong. The clean stock just feels better. I'm on an essential phone and it just feels so much faster. I'm tempted with a pixel XL 2 but I'm worried about the bluetooth. My pixel XL had tons of issues.

Alright, I'm at home and I'm up and running with the 2 XL. The 2 has been reset and is boxed ready to be sent back to Google.

I didn't buy a screen protector in advance and I almost want to go without one. But alas, I'll go get one tomorrow.

Keep everyone posted. I literally am doing the same jump as you and want to see what you think about the whole switch from Apple to Pixel 2 to Pixel 2 XL.

I have to run out and get a case/screen protector for my 2XL that came in yesterday. My iPhone X is currently in the "junk drawer"

What screen protector were you looking to get?? There aren't many good options from what I've researched.

Also having major issues with imessage. I shut it off on the X before activating the pixel. I get a call 3 hours later from a family member asking if I am ok and alive. They have been texting me for hours and I got nothing in my pixel. She said all the messages sent as imessage. Once I replied from the pixel a couple of times her message finally converted to sms.

Your best bet is to deregister your number from the iMessage servers here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203042

Along with shutting of iMessage on your phone.

Re: Screen protector, I'm just going to get a Zagg since that's what everyone sells almost exclusively. Since I was unsure on whether the thing would get delivered I didn't order on Amazon but next week I'll likely order a wet install film from IQ Shield or Skinomi.

The zagg is $50!!!!

I got one from Verizon for 38 with my discount. Funny thing is, I'm enjoying not having anything on my screen... That is of course I get a scratch then I'll be ticked off.
Yup same here, so nice without a protector

That's the hd one not the tempered glass. I got it anyway but afraid to attempt to put it on!!
Oh the wet install? I don't mind that one but I don't have time to put it on right now. Packing up my son before a home showing followed by an open house. Gonna be a long day lol

As a samsung guy and now a pixel 2 owner, I notice somethings the samsungs do better. music app, video, file manager. *oreo's is limited in function* even the samsung browser was nice. it used my finger print to log into everything. very nice feature wish chrome would adapt.

Also, small things like the multi app window 'CLEAR ALL' is at the bottom so you dont have to scroll all the way up to get to it like on the pixel.

Overall if you want a good experience on a Samsung use their power apps and qaulity of life stuff like the PRIVATE MODE, plus NOVA LAUNCHER. Without nova launcher theres no point to use a samsung lol.

But to be fair i use nova on my pixel 2.

I'm sorry, I couldn't disagree more. That manufacturers insist on putting their garbage "power apps" on every phone, and make you powerless to uninstall them, is one of the more compelling reasons to get a Pixel IMHO.

I don't like using the manufacturer apps since Google covers them already. I'd rather use the Google variant mainly because it'll work on other Android phones.. hell even iPhone. Samsung? Not so much.

Pretty much sums up why I am now using a Pixel 2 on Project Fi after many Motorola's on Verizon. Happy, joyous, and free.

Yep... All my stuff is device and platform agnostic. If I want to keep reading that article on my laptop? No problem. I can access my music playlists everywhere, look at my photos and videos everywhere, get reminders, etc.

I agree with you 100%, but I'd kick myself the instant I pick up a scratch.

But the problem is that every tempered glass protector I've tried on a curved glass screen has been absolute junk. They all have serious compromises. So on a recommendation, I snagged an IQShield plastic protector and I'm amazed at how much I like it. It offers full coverage and fits perfectly with the Rugged Armor Spigen case I have. It was a wet install, which pretty much made it a breeze it fit perfectly.

And the plastic has a bit of self healing capability so it doesn't have any of those fine scratches and swirls that plastic protectors invariably pick up along the way.

I have zero qualms recommending it.

I went with IQ shield....plastic but it works well and is about as full coverage as you could get. Probably not as helpful as tempered glass to prevent screens cracking but in all honesty I don't think glass protector do that much to protect screens from cracking except in rare cases.
I want it mostly to prevent scratches.

I think it self heals because it's got a bit of a memory to it. It scratches easily with my finger nail but disappears after awhile. Cheaper than Zagg and lifetime warranty. Not quite as smooth as glass but feels good. I feel like I half to clean the screen more often but not a problem
