i click on the camera icon and says cant connect to the camera

when i go on click on the camera icon on the phone i get the message can't connect to the camera OK
and a black background

Welcome to the forums. What device do you have? Does the problem persists after a reboot? If so, you could try clearing days for the camera app in settings - apps - all and then restart.
