I didn't install an update, now phone is on but screen is black

Samsung has been bugging me weeks to download updates, I have been to busy. Today the phone beeped then the screen went black. Calls and text kept coming in but I couldn't see or respond to them

I've been meet it once. But I turned off my phone first for several minutes. then it's okay.
