I don't think a new Nexus 10 is going to be released soon

It just doesn't add up. How do we go from the Nexus 5, one of the most leaked devices, to not even knowing the brand that is making the Nexus 10? This past Friday was the last day for me. Think about it: when the Nexus 5 released, it took about 2 weeks to get into stores. It would be impossible for them to release it Thursday or Friday. Thursday is a holiday, and Friday is black Friday. Unless they plan to release it at 2 A.M, it's already past black friday which basically closes out a lot of windows for them. The iPad Air will sell like crazy especially with the Target deal. It doesn't make any sense for google to come out and say "We are releasing the tablet the week after Black Friday."

Secondly, look at the Nexus 5 when it released. It had "leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks" for the 16gb, and 2-3 weeks for the 32gb. That doesn't include shipping. If the Nexus Tablet was released tomorrow, it wouldn't leave the warehouse until either the 15th or the 22nd. If it seriously left the warehouse on the 22nd of December, there is no way Google is going to give free 2 day shipping.

That's just what I see of it. It doesn't make any sense for google to release it after Christmas, and it doesn't make any sense to release it now. If you guys can prove me wrong then please do, but I think it's about time to look elsewhere. The only thing I can't explain is why the Nexus 16gb is out of stock.

The 16gig being out of stock for awhile does fall in line with the nexus 4 being out shortly before the nexus 5 launch... Just thinking

They play a dangerous game if they wait.

1) Miss the christmas rush

2) CES will be a few weeks later at which point the other manufacturers show their next gen stuff.

3) hype goes into a downward spiral, seen it many times

Can't we wait until next weekend to discuss this ?

Even last weekend I was thinking, "this next week, or the week after that".

Now, I'd just say, "this next week", as on the 29th of November.

Next weekend I will be 100% ready to say, "yes, there must be some manufacturing problem".

If starting next Friday they have a new Nexus 10, ready to be sold, in good quantities, then that's still before December.

It's always next week. You're waiting for next weekend? It makes absolutely no sense for google to say at 5pm on black friday "Hey buy our tablet. It's not in stores yet and you probably already bought a tablet, but ours is for sale now." They're not going to release it the day after black friday and they're not going to release it on thanksgiving. If they release it next weekend, it won't arrive for Christmas probably. Still the nexus 5 has "leaving the warehouse in 2-3 weeks" If there are still nexus 5's that haven't left the wearhouse, there's no chance that all the nexus 10's will leave the warehouse in time to arrive for christmas.

You can wait, but I highly doubt it. There has not been a single leak of the nexus 10 as far as I know. First it was LG, then ASUS. We don't even know the manufacturer yet. We went from the many leaks of the nexus 5 to absolutely nothing.

It's always next week.

I just have memories of being in forums for digital cameras ... and watching other people "bouncing off the walls" about these same sort of subjects. Like it is really something important. And then a few days later, the camera is available for sale.

For me, I just bought my new Nexus 10, current version, last August, and so no new one, that doesn't bother me. Actually, I think that I would be more interested in a 12 inch tablet than another 10 inch one.

If it's really important to you, just buy something else, today.

But there were mixed rumours. The 22nd or the 29th ... and it's still not the 29th.

What you said makes absolute sense. This sentiment has been expressed by myself, and many others, on the next thread. Why would they announce a new item on Black Friday when there is already so much noise about sales. This is possibly the shortest shopping season ever due to Thanksgiving being on the 28th.Who would even hear them? And then there is that Target offer on the iPad Air. What bothers me most, as I said elsewhere, is the absolute lack of any leaks and not even knowing the manufacturer. Does this sound like something that is coming out soon given the logistics of manufacturing and shipping? It is not hard to envision this puppy not seeing the light of day until next year with G saying we never said it was coming out earlier? Bottom line - all our rantings are to no avail. It will happen when it happens - but it does feel good to vent.

For sure man. I really wish Google would just give us a time table. If it's coming out this year, tell us. Even if it were to come out the day after Christmas I would wait for it if they just told us when to expect it.

I'm starting to think that too. The thing is - I've been holding out on getting the Nexus 10 for months. I was going to buy the original one in September but rumours were the 10 2 was gong to be released with the Nexus 5 in October. Then when it didn't, it was a few weeks later and then when it didn't, it was Android Dev Conference and then it was Black Friday and then it'll be Christmas an then it'll be CES, etc. All rather frustrating for the customer. If Google just refuted any imminent release date rumours in September, I would have bout the original Nexus 10 back in Sept.

I've now given up and bought the original nexus 10 today anyway (for $100 cheaper that I would have paid a few months ago). But it could have so easily been another device, considered a Tab 3. And they lost a sale of the Nexus 10 2 whenever it does come out.

Secrecy and surprise just doesn't pay sometimes.

I sold my iPad waiting for the new nexus. I'm going to wait for black Friday to see what deals might arise for the nexus 10 current gen. Part of me is telling me to go buy that iPad air from target and get a $100 gift card. The only problem I have with that is that from a software perspective, the iPad air is the same as the iPad 2. Google utilizes the screen better as well. IOS 7 is no different from iPad to iPhone.

1 Sorry IOS/iPad/iPhone is good for nothing ! Why would you want a device with no file system ?
There's no way I'd buy one of those !

2 The Nexus10 is still a great device with the biggest bang for the buck !
With Kit-Kat installed it's smooth as glass and can hold it's own !
I have an N10 and would buy another if I needed to. This is the best time to look for deals on tablets.

Swappa.com is a good place to look for used tablets if you want to go that route..

The way you use your tablet is different from the way I use mine. I like games, web browsing, and YouTube. To be honest, iPad does that better than anyone else in my opinion. However I want to try something new. I like the little features of the nexus like front facing speakers and the feel of it.

I don't know if I want to buy a used device. There are so many little things that can go wrong. It also doesn't have that feel to it that I love. Owning something new just feels better than something used. Hard to explain.

No I use my tabs for all of those things. I watch Netflix/Hulu and I'm a pretty big gamer as well .
What I mean by file system- is that I can put a file anywhere I want to.
This falls into the customization/functionality category. IOS devices look nice but as far as customization/functionality it fails horribly.
They say IOS devices are so intuitive that a 3yr old could use it but at the same time there are classes showing you how to use it ?

Yes the Nexus10 does feel better than the iPad. It's lighter w/ better speakers with an unbeatable screen.
With the addition of Kit-Kat battery life seems to be better along with smoother graphics.

Off the bat, just let me say that I agree. To be honest, I was a little surprised that Google Didn't drop a new Nexus 10 with the Nexus 5, but I was already having my doubts well before Halloween simply due to the lack of ANY information or leaks on a 10" Nexus tablet. Not a huge deal for me, as I'm not looking to replace my current Nexus 10, but I was surprised none the less.

Now, to play Devil's advocate...

- I'm not sure how much Black Friday itself matters to higher-end electronics like this, but I do agree that if you want to benefit from the "Christmas shopping season", you're product should at least be available/announced/launching on Black Friday. Having said that, the iPad Air was going to sell like crazy anyway. Android's share in the tablet market (especially the 10" tablet market) simply doesn't have the strength at this time to really affect iPad sales at all. I don't know that it really matters though, because I'm not sure Google ever intended to have a new 10" tablet on the market for Christmas to begin with...that timetable was one based on speculation by most of us...and it's certainly clear that will not be one prior to the new year at this point.

- Let's assume for a second that Google actually was planning on releasing a new 10" Nexus on Black Friday...who's to say that they wouldn't already have the stock in place to fulfill orders faster than they did the N5? Who is also to say that they wouldn't offer free 2-day shipping? If that were a critical aspect of getting orders fulfilled on time, Google could certainly build it into the price. (Again, I DO NOT believe this to be the case...I'm just throwing it out there).

As far as the N10 16GB going out of stock on Google Play, that may just have been a coincidence. Even if Google is not releasing a new N10 at this time, it does seem apparently they are not replenishing their stock for whatever reason. It could be because a new version is imminent, it could be because their contract with Samsung to manufacture them has expired or maybe just because they decided they weren't making any money off them...who knows?

Some have speculated, and I tend to agree, that Google is looking at an 18 month cycle for the N10, as opposed to 12. It would make more sense, since these devices cost more money and folks generally keep them longer and upgrade less frequently than with phones. If this is the case, should we maybe expect a new Nexus 10 this spring, perhaps in conjunction with a 2014 Nexus 7? Seems plausible. Even if they originally did intend to get the Nexus 10 out with the Nexus 5, they obviously did not meet that goal, and as you mentioned, it really makes no sense to come out with it until after Christmas at this point anyway if it's not out now.

To those looking to buy, I've seen a lot of great deals on the current N10 out there online. If you want a decent tablet for $100-200 less than the new N10 probably will be (and whenever that may be), I certainly wouldn't hesitate buying one if you can get a good price.

A lot of good points. If I was Google, I probably wouldn't make a new nexus 10. All the rave is for the nexus 7 and I think that they're going to stick with the only tablet that is successful.

I just bought a nexus 10 last night. It was new for 350 32gb. The only thing was that it was opened and it still has all the plastic on it buy no box. Then I saw an ad for the same nexus 10 new for 400. I don't really know if its better to pay the 50 bucks to get it in box or not but I'm happy.

If it works it works, and $50 is $50...that's a pretty good price.

The Nexus 7 is obviously Google's focus in the tablet market. It has been a good strategy for them, Instead of trying to compete directly with the iPad, they essentially jumped into a market with little competition (at the time there was no iPad mini), with a quality product at a absolutely remarkable price. They advertise it more, they promote it more, and it sells a LOT more than it's 10" counterpart.

I have no problem with that. I, however, still prefer a 10" tablet, I've been very happy with my Nexus 10, and I certainly hope Google continues this product line in the future, even if it will never get the same attention as the Nexus 7.

Exactly. I use mine as a laptop. I love that its just a pick up and go type of device. Completely agree with you.

Google needs to update its N10 line to mat their competitors specs on their devices
