I feckin knew it ......

Go into settings>power>usage after a night of having it not plugged in and see what is taking all the power. If you have wifi, bluetooth, GPS, and instant automatic facebook and gmail sync with a scheduled backup over the air all during the night, you're going to lose some battery... If you set it to vibrate and have a ton of messages come in overnight, set it to the most quiet ringtone instead of vibrate.

I would definitely do some app checking. I am finding standby time to be excellent on this phone, definitely better than any other android device I have ever used and seems to be on par to my iphone 5, if not better.

iPhone 4S was not a 4G LTE phone. It is irrelevant to compare it to a 4G LTE phone when it comes to battery life. Big difference in screen size, too, which is huge wrt battery life.

You can't really compare the 4 to this phone as that has no LTE and it sports a 3.5" screen compared to the 4.7 on the one. Bigger screen, more battery drain. The iphone 5 has pretty crappy battery life compared to the 4 also.
I disagree, it's all about the user experience. This is one thing that Apple gets better than any other company out there. I don't care about the reasoning behind it I just want a phone that will get through the day without dying and I shouldn't have to reduce the usefulness of some of the coolest features just to get there. I don't really have that issue with the One, but I certainly have to pay more attention to battery life and have had to start using NFC tags in my car/office/home to change settings to maximize battery life. The end user shouldn't have to worry so much about every little thing just to make the device function.

Yes I get that I have a larger screen and LTE and those things eat battery faster, but that isn't my fault. HTC knew what they were putting into this phone and if they knew that the average user was going to have issues with battery performance then they might have considered a larger battery.

I'm not disappointed in the device or even the battery performance, I'll adjust. But it's another thing occupying my highly limited mental bandwidth.

I manually sync weather when i want to check it,likewise with emails etc 3g is off also

I've had similar expereriences and just thought I was an android newbie not having setup the phone right. I've spent the whole week trying to identify what been going on, there's nothing particularly obvious. HTC linked in seemed to be taking a lot of power considering I hadn't set it to sync, so I've disabled it now. Would be interested to know what others find

How many bars of coverage do you have when it it is at home? This is the single most important determinate of battery usage during idle times. Since I have an airrave, my One does not use much juice at home, Your Mileage may vary.

Again, almost always 4 or 5 bars!!

You should get "Wifi Location" or "Juice Defender" or "2X Battery"
Most standby battery drain issues are because WIFI or 4G is using them
Those apps mentioned above will turn them off (turning them back on periodically) when your phone is in standby mode and will automatically turn them back on once you wake your phone up...this should save you a ton of battery!

The OP is manually syncing so he doesn't need any signal overnight, airplane mode should solve his problem easily without installing any apps

We are in an age where any heavy user is not going to get through a full day, these phones do way to much, I get through my day because I'm at a computer all day, but if I were typing this from my phone instead, I wouldn't get through a day either.....You have to just pick the phone you like, with the features you want...How long are we really away from an outlet, car charger, or computer? There are plenty of charging options out there

I am getting two days of charge with my One. This power saving feature works really well.

Sent from my HTCONE using Android Central Forums

What if he wants the ability to receive emergency phone calls in the middle of the night?

I feckin knew it too! JK You would think that these sort of silly issues would be figured out by 2013 but I guess not....

Shouldn't matter on standby. My iPhone 4 only drops a couple of percent in 8-10 hours of standby without having to tweak any settings.

Oh I'm with you on that. I'm by my computer or in my car most of the day so I can usually keep it charged up. But I'm not looking forward to the day when that isn't the case.

Apart from apps set to sync at various intervals there is also Blinkfeed to consider. Mine is set to update over wifi only, so even if the phone turns the wifi off when it goes to sleep, Mr Blinky pops it back on to get its fix. You also have things like the Play store checking for updates, Android checking for software updates and who knows what else. Having wifi switched on when it cannot connect is also a power sucker because it will be reaching out at regular intervals checking for available networks to connect to. 10% over 6 hours doesn't sound too bad but try it with wifi disabled. Your biggest drain should be the screen, but if that is not in use then it will be radio signals like gps, wifi and 3/4g.
