I find this odd.

WhatsApp was very briefly pulled from the store due to incompatibility with 8.1 and was swiftly returned. It has a fine app. I mean, if you want Kik or something that's been abandoned for three years then yeah, you'll get a subpar app but compare two frequently updated apps, AndroidCentral vs WPCentral for instance, you'll see a much higher quality Windows Phone App. Not to mention we have a Snapchat and Instagram client that both blow away the default clients, the new revamped Facebook App is absolutely unprecedented in terms of quality and is no longer a half baked port of the iOS app. Apps in general are better because of the universal design language and the developer environment. Sure, if someone's porting an app, I'm prepared for disappointment. Otherwise, Windows Phone apps are awesome.

Dude, come on. You and I both know there is a huge number of apps that haven't gotten updated in a long time or lack features compared to other platforms. Outside of the apps you mentioned and Rudy's 6 Apps, apps aren't the best in quality at all.

There are a lot of complaints that apps lack in quality including Microsoft's own apps. Let's be honest.

Rudy's 6 apps aren't the best in quality? I'd like to see any other instagram or snapchat app keeping up. I've not heard this disdain for the individual apps outside of some that the developers abandoned a long time ago.

Read properly next time, I said OUTSIDE of Rudy's apps and here:

This thread is just one of many threads of people leaving or going to leave because of features, apps, or quality.

I won't deny that we lack a lot of apps that some people need. There is an app gap that effects some users. That doesn't mention app quality though.

There were several people in that thread that mentioned the quality of the Xbox Music app or apps that lack in quality.

I know no one who uses a Nokia phone. Not a single person. I've never even seen one in the wild at all. The only reason I know they exist is the internet and commercials.

nokia 520 is quite popular here in uk, because of its cheap costs and the fact that they come with almost every other cheap contract.

And every one of those points is painfully objective. Google doesn't even have decent offline nav yet so it's useless to me. I'll always prefer Hotmail since if you use Gmail in IE it takes on the classic HTML build which is awful and generally a lot more spam got through.
Google Now still feels like more of a beta than Cortana with it's complete lack of personality and consideration for user experience. It's very robotic and doesn't seem as much like a personal assistant as it does Microsoft Sam. No, I don't care for the snarky retorts or HALO references but I like it to not seem like tech we had two decades ago. Google Search, to me, has always been very basic. Even when Bing was querying Google results and just presenting them better it was much better. I mean, have you done an image or video search on Google? It's a nightmare and terribly unintuitive.
Google Wallet, meh, just like any other wallet. Oh, except unlike the Wallet on my device of choice, it is kept on their servers rather than just my device. Not a place I want my information. Not when the Google Play store has been accidentally hacked twice in as many months.

nothing beats google maps, nothing. compare it with what iphoen and windows phones offer, just see the difference. google search...are you kidding me, its so popular that the term 'google it' is now probably in the dictionary.

Stop that. The most common complaint on wpcentral forums is that apps lack in quality. Whatsapp was so bad it was pulled from the store. Please, don't give a damn excuse talking about Android apps lack in quality because Android met and passed WP into terms of app quality. And that's not even going over iOS which is even more higher quality.

And you were mentioning farts:

I was thinking the exact same thing when he said that. Its a known fact that paypal app is MOST secure on android, and lacks security on iphone. Apps have better quality on android than on any other os.

No, I found Google Maps to be awful. No way I could use that for my daily driver. Also, popular doesn't always mean good. The most popular musicians right now are One Direction and Justin Bieber.

going on your theory then blackberry app store must be your alltime favourite.

Clearly you're not aware of what the not equal to symbol implies.

I would be willing to bet the Nexus 5 alone has outsold the 520 in the UK, and the Nexus 5 sales are small potatoes by Android standards. Nokia only shipped 4.4 million total in the 4th quarter last year, and that is all Nokia Windows Phones combined, not just 520s. - Nokia posts somewhat disappointing Q4 2013 results, avoids revealing Lumia sales | Windows Phone Central

Thanks for the laugh. Even AndroidCentral, an app that has tons of developmental backing can't put together a decent app. I much prefer my Windows Phone paypal app that adheres to a good design language, is secure and looks so much better. Android's just has that whole issue where every few months out of the blue it stops letting people log in. Still better than iPhone's though.

The story points to whatsapp alternatives...which are in beta. I don't think WP is in a position to brag about quality just yet.

The thing is, MOST apps are going to be ported. No one is going to design on WP first. Even you said you are designing for Android, and you criticize Android all the time. You are a perfect example of why WP's app store will remain behind for the foreseeable future...developers go where the money is. And marketshare is usually where the money is.

Actually, I am designing for Windows Phone and porting to Android because I want a cross-platform app. No way I'd start in designing for Android. Have you seen how awful their developer tools are?

How is Google Maps awful exactly?

No... No I'm not. That app is just a chore to use. I'd have almost been happier with a tapatalk client. Try the WPCentral app for Windows Phone sometime. It'd blow you away.

Google Maps doesn't have offline navigation, their 3D maps are laughable. Their turn by turn cannot distinguish whether I'm on a highway or an access road most of the time. Even when it does, it gets a lot of the street names wrong. I'm not in a small town, I'm in Austin, TX and there's no way I could depend on such a poor GPS. Plus on top of that, something I don't like, it's a Google Service so everywhere I stop is being neatly packed in a little database.

Android Central app works fine for me, so I guess you are being a bit subjective. Google Maps does not have offline maps but it gas always done me right in Atlanta or in North Carolina. And you can opt out of Google saving where you went just like very other Google Service.

I live in Texas where we have a lot of big cities but there are 4 and 5 hour drives between a lot of those big cities and Google is not reliable there. Yeah, if you're navigating inside a city they're okay I guess though they never update their Austin maps it seems but for road trips, it's useless.

I highly disagree, I DROVE to North Carolina from Atlanta with Google Maps.
