Android phones will always require you to enter your backup password/PIN periodically (usually at least every 72 hrs) when using fingerprint unlock -- it's for greater security. Are you saying you forgot your backup password within the past 72 hours? Has this always been your phone?

Not sure if that applies to older Android every 72 hours

If you enter it wrong a few times, you should get a "forgot password" option which will let you unlock your phone using your Google account password.
