I got an Android, but want to go back to the iPhone. Why is this?

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

Oh without the market? Who would use an Android without the Market installed?
Anyone with a Kindle. Lots of tablets have been sold without the market. I remember buying cheap tablets back in the day where I had to struggle to get the market on there manually. Because the tablets were not sanctioned by Google, they were not allowed to pre-install google apps, which included the market.

Android itself is open source. Google only controls it's own apps (Gmail, Maps, ect) which includes the Market. The Market is not part of Android...it is a Google thing. Google "owns" the Play store every bit as much as Apple owns the App store.

Because Android is open, you can use whatever market you want, and there are several out there. Amazon's is the biggest. You can also sideload apps manually without ever using any market at all. The Market is in no way a requirement on any level.

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

Uh huh. So dependable.

Apple "dependability" in general is greatly exaggerated by the nerd community. It is part of the image Apple projects.

That issue has since been resolved, and now it is dependable over 90% of the time. That article was written a month after release, and even he said that his improved greatly after a software update.

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

Gee, you don't say.

I guess it depends on what day you use an Apple product as to how dependable it is eh?

That statement doesn't even make sense.

"Google cannot remove squat from your device if you are only using Amazon's market, for example."

Google most certainly removed apps from phones in the past.

Google removing virus-infected Android apps from phones, tablets - latimes.com

From the article:

Last Tuesday, Google removed 21 free apps that were hacked and loaded with malware, and then distributed on the company's Android Marketplace.

Since then, reports state that Google has removed more than 50 malicious apps from its Android Marketplace -- though, while Google has acknowledged that it has removed a number of apps, it so far has declined to say just how many.

On Saturday, Google began entering people's phones and tablets and killing the infected apps directly on those devices, said Rich Cannings, Google's Android security lead, in a blog post.

...

Some have expressed privacy concerns over Google's ability to remove apps from devices remotely, though it is an action that Google makes clear it has the right to perform in its Android Market Terms of Service, stating: "2.4 From time to time, Google may discover a Product on the Market that violates the Android Market Developer Distribution Agreement or other legal agreements, laws, regulations or policies. You agree that in such an instance Google retains the right to remotely remove those applications from your Device at its sole discretion."

As I said, it only has to do with apps from the official Play store (then called the Market). Google cannot (or will not) remove apps installed outside of the market. It uses the Play store app to remove them. If you have an example to the contrary, please post it.

I only made the statement that they have removed applications in the past, that's all.

Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

I thought it was obvious. Apple dependability was only 80% at the time that article was written.

Actually, at the time of that article, it was already increasing, as a couple of updates had been released.
And over time, in my experience, Apple has been way more dependable than Android.

My point remains the same...Apple is obviously far from perfect. A 20% failure rate is awful by any standard.

"OMG but they fixed it later"...so what? You could say the same about Android.

So what was the point of quoting me in post 182 then? "Google cannot remove squat from your device if you are only using Amazon's market, for example." - Thats true. I was not wrong.

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

Since you quote every post that I ever post anywhere, I figured that it was the right thing to do. :)

Glibness rather than rebuttal is a sign that your opponent's ability to win is flagging.

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

I've had a lot of android phones and I honestly don't see the iPhone being any worse than any of them. I liked the Note 3 okay and I really liked the G2, but to me those devices weren't better than the 5s' I'm using now, they were just different. Ford is not better than Honda, it's just different.

Sales numbers would seem to say different along with reviews as of late. Ford isn't cheap line anymore.

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

Actually, I am pro-technology. As I stated earlier, I like iOS, Android, and WP8. I have 2 of these OS's now, and a WP8 on the way. I just laugh sometimes when I read the Android forums, post something about iOS, and you would think that I had bad-mouthed some peoples' mama! Each platform has plusses and minuses. Android has customization, bigger screens, bigger specs, etc. iOS has stability, timely updates, great ecosystem, great app store, optimization that makes an iPhone (even with a dual-core) as fast or faster than 99% of Androids on the market, even with their quad cores and bigger specs. If I needed some certain functions on a phone, Android is probably the way to go. But normally, all that I do on my phone is e-mail, text, take pictures, and web browse. Oh, and make phone calls (imagine that)! Therefore, I don't need a lot of the gimmicks that Samsung puts in their phones, but a lot of people do. It is comical that a lot of people accuse Apple of copying, but seem to forget that Samesung copying Apple is what put them on the map. Apple released a 64-bit processor, so guess what Samesung is releasing?
I did say that early Android phones were pretty much junk, and anyone that has had Android as long as I have probably agrees to an extent. I started with the OG Droid, which was a great phone, but then they went a long time without another decent phone, and the early Android OS versions were freezing, laggy, stuttering junkware. But that was then, and this is now. Android has come a long way, and I am glad to see it, as I will continue to have one in my house.

Samsung Copied Apple? You can't be serious...... Apple uses Samsung products in there devices.....

That has nothing to do with the copying. Obviously, you are not familiar with Samsung's history.

Did someone say or insinuate that Ford was cheap?

I don't believe that there was a national 20% failure rate. The article was based on around 550 people.

You should see if Apple has any openings. You're good at PR spin.

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

One of the things I do appreciate about samsung and Apple is basic screen quality. As many devices as I've had I've never had a faulty screen or dead/stuck pixel with either of their devices. I can't say the same for the Nexus 7's or Asus Transformer Prime's I've had. It's gotten to the point where I know I can just take for granted that I'm gonna get a flawless screen with samsung and Apple.
