I got an Android, but want to go back to the iPhone. Why is this?

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

I think a lot of Apple people gloss over the limitations is all. Thats why I like to point them out on here...if it was me, I would want to know about them. Especially considering how pricey Apple devices are. I think I am doing them a favor.

I enjoy arguments on forums like this because they have educated me in the past. There are products that I might have avoided buying had I been exposed to opinions about them on forums like this beforehand. The HTC Rezound comes to mind.

IMO, it's fine to prefer a product, but since no product is perfect it comes down to just that, preference. One should be able to prefer android while respecting that their preference isn't everyone else's. I, right now, am using iOS but that doesn't mean that android isn't tremendous. How do I know this? I've recently used both. I prefer some android handsets to others. Everyone has different criteria. Some people love what the Moto X and HTC One offers. I do not. That doesn't mean I'm right and everyone else is somehow wrong. ...and no, this is not aimed at you. I'm just making an observation. Pappy53 might give some the impression that he is really pro Apple at the expense of competing products, but I may be misinterpreting his viewpoint.

That seems to imply that "better" is subjective, and I don't think that is the case. No one would try to argue that the iPhone 1 is better than the Moto X for example...one is very clearly better than the other.

Are you saying it is impossible for me to disagree with you and respect you at the same time? That the two are mutually exclusive?

It's just an opinion about a piece of technology. It's not judgement. All I expect from someone who says one is better is for them to explain why they think so...thats it. Opinions are valuable. I like hearing them.

My comments were not only meant for you. However, I think when comparing the plethora of android handsets to the iPhone a lot of "better" is indeed subjective depending on what the criteria is. To some, the iPhone 1 would be better than the Moto X because the Moto X runs android. I've heard some say they'd rather have an old flip phone than an iPhone 5s. So, yes, I think "better" is dependent on the criteria and is largely subjective. If the iPhone 5s is better because it has Touch ID and is more easily pocketed than, say, an HTC One than, to me, that's preference. If an S4 is "better" than an iPhone 5s because the S4 uses plastic than that, to me, is preference. Is the G2 better than the Note 3 because the buttons are on the back and it offers what many would say is superior audio? Some would say yes, some would say no.

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

Motorola did a great job, but it wasn't innovation. They optimized hardware and software, something that Apple has done from the beginning.

It made the Apple product superior for many years, and now Android is finally catching up, and in some cases surpassed Apple.

I'm curious where is android still lacking? I find that android is the benchmark of power and customization for a mobile device. It has many features and can ant feature you can think of if its a Samsung flagship. I find my Moto X to be as flexible as I need it to be. I don't think an iPhone could be lacking (severely) in several areas if I ever had to use one. I'm fully aware of how an iPhone works (lot of friends who had an iPhone) and I'm not impressed at all. While the simplicity can be alluring in actual practice though it can be its turn off at the same time.

I think it depends on what you value. Because iOS is a turn-off to you doesn't mean it is to someone else. Now, this is an android forum so the preference and arguments in android's favor are expected. It's very different at iMore (besides the fact that their editors are now using threads to peddle porn ( http://forums.imore.com/showthread.php?t=279538 ) and their readership can present compelling arguments in iOS' favor because their preferences differ from Android Central's readership. I don't, however, magically believe their viewpoints are correct and everyone's here, at Android Central, are all misguided.

For those that value customization android, to me, is the clear choice despite what can easily be achieved by jailbreaking in iOS. However, many many people are, believe it or not, not interested in widgets, fonts, ROMs, and launchers. For some, the apps are front and center. Right now, I'm enjoying iOS' brand of simplicity and app quality but sometimes I prefer Android and the flexibility it offers and that'll trump my preference for the app quality I typically see in iOS.

That said, until you frequent some other forums you just can't fully appreciate the members, ambassadors, and moderators here at Android Central. That's definitely something Android has over iOS.

Actually, I am pro-technology. As I stated earlier, I like iOS, Android, and WP8. I have 2 of these OS's now, and a WP8 on the way. I just laugh sometimes when I read the Android forums, post something about iOS, and you would think that I had bad-mouthed some peoples' mama! Each platform has plusses and minuses. Android has customization, bigger screens, bigger specs, etc. iOS has stability, timely updates, great ecosystem, great app store, optimization that makes an iPhone (even with a dual-core) as fast or faster than 99% of Androids on the market, even with their quad cores and bigger specs. If I needed some certain functions on a phone, Android is probably the way to go. But normally, all that I do on my phone is e-mail, text, take pictures, and web browse. Oh, and make phone calls (imagine that)! Therefore, I don't need a lot of the gimmicks that Samsung puts in their phones, but a lot of people do. It is comical that a lot of people accuse Apple of copying, but seem to forget that Samesung copying Apple is what put them on the map. Apple released a 64-bit processor, so guess what Samesung is releasing?
I did say that early Android phones were pretty much junk, and anyone that has had Android as long as I have probably agrees to an extent. I started with the OG Droid, which was a great phone, but then they went a long time without another decent phone, and the early Android OS versions were freezing, laggy, stuttering junkware. But that was then, and this is now. Android has come a long way, and I am glad to see it, as I will continue to have one in my house.

Why exactly? Just because of the logo? What specifically is the iPhone 1 able to do that the Moto X cannot do as well or better?

I can give specifics. When I say "x is better than y" I can tell you the specific reasons. It isn't just based on a preference for a logo.

I've heard some say they'd rather have an old flip phone than an iPhone 5s.
Thats sarcasm IMO. Not an actual preference. The people who honestly believe that would not prefer any smartphone.

I've been on Mac/Apple forums before. Mostly it is Apple users patting each other on the back about the wonderful choices they have made. I see far more real debate in Android forums like this one.

The people "defending" Android on those Mac/Apple forums were few and far between. Mostly because any opinion that favored Android over Apple was immediately attacked. Any users expressing such opinions were labelled "Google Shills" or something similar. Apple users were not at all tolerant of opposing viewpoints.

They'd prolly use the old build quality and build materials excuse. It's still subjective. ...or that the iPhone 1 could play .aif files while android refuses.

Is that like "iSheep" on Android forums? It works both ways. :)

...partly because it has to push a lot fewer pixels with it's 2010-era display.

That great ecosystem is not free...it is more expensive and more restrictive.

It is comical that a lot of people accuse Apple of copying
The reason it is comical is because Apple is the one that was screaming loudest about being copied. It is the best example of the Apple double standard.

Not defending Samsung (I am definitely not a fan of touchwiz), but Apple is the one complaining the most about copying...so the fact that they themselves are blatantly copying Android now seems a little hypocritical.

Not in my experience...Apple forums were far more draconian.

How many times has "iSheep" been used in this thread for example?

Re: Got an Android but want to go back to iPhone. Why is this?

None, but that's a rarity.
Not in my experience. In fact it seems to be the other way around. I hardly ever see that term anymore.

I have been kicked off of Apple forums befer merely for criticizing Apple. No personal attacks, no foul language. Criticizing Apple was all it took.

Apple and Android copied WebOS on the multitasking, so that is not an Android original.

iOS lockscreen has been around a long time. From the 3GS:

iMore? I really lost a lot of respect for them after the thread they just launched on how to get free porn on your iPhone. I'm sorry, I'm just too old I guess.
