I have a $1,000 Flagship pixel 3XL, and I am constantly jealous of 2 year old smartphones...

Hey, All...

I've gone through two pixel 3 XL devices. Everytime my phone lags, slows down, takes forever to take a picture, or an app resets itself from memory that I used less than 2 minutes ago, I get feelings of jealousy towards even 2 year old smartphones. My two-year-old Samsung devices were loaded down bloatware, yet they had 6 gigabytes of RAM and I'm using all the same apps as I did back then and I did not experience the Slowdown back then.

It just gets to me more and more that this phone only has 4 gigabytes of RAM. I'm going to go ahead and have Google send me yet another replacement to see if I just had two lemons. This is unacceptable. It's very annoying, however I'm so loyal to Google, I have a hard time leaving.

I should not have to weed through every single app and spend hours of trouble shooting to make my thousand-dollar phone work correctly. 8 years ago, that would have been a different story, not now. Not with a flagship.

You have a choice - sell the 3XL and get a latest non-Google flagship phone - preferably the S10/+ or the OnePlus 6T.

o, you shouldn't - because Android kills least recently used background apps if it needs more RAM (which takes nanoseconds), so it shoudn't lag - except for the camera lag which was supposed to be fixed with the March update. The only possibility is that you're running "non-killable" apps in the background for no reason.

I know.... But I don't wwaaannnnaaa...... I'm a toddler right now, I swear! I'm just venting.

Just curious have you disabled adaptive battery see if it better for you ?

I don't think it's the RAM. It's something else you have in there. I have the smaller S9 with also 4GB of RAM as my primary driver and it never gave me trouble in usage that I had to think I need an even more powerful device.

I hardly have any extra apps and this phone feels sluggish. 4gb of RAM is simply not enough these days. Pixel 3 could have absolutely benefited from 6gb of RAM.

I agree my s8+ 4gb ram no issue

Carrying a second phone to supplement your $1,000 Flagship should NOT be the solution in 2019.

And yes, I also carry an iPhone 10x and an iPhone 7+ everyday - and I have a Note 9 in addition to my Pixel 3XL.

For what it's worth I have almost 300 apps and even when I have 15-20 open my pixel 3 is lightning fast and ridiculously smooth. I love it

4GBs is actually a lot and adding RAM doesn't increase speed no matter how you dice it. If your phone is sluggish, there is something else going on.

Android OS will benefit from 6gb of RAM. Watch Google sticking 6GB in their pixel 4 for base model. 4gb doesn't cut it anymore.

Only 4 marketing and future proofing....it is not the reason for lag in your device. Why is it that 4GB works well for so many other Pixel owners and other device owners?

Because a lot of people don't care when their YouTube refreshes so often when I get back to it even though I only have email, messanger and whatsapp open on the background. It's ridiculous.

EXACTLY!!! It is so bad for productivity and multi tasking. I'm constantly popping back and forth between a handful of apps, and they are constantly refreshing or restarting.

My Pixel 2XL never lags and I have over 200 apps. I think 6GB is the sweet spot for RAM these days and 12GB is ridiculous. But I have had no issues. I must admit to being an app closer and usually close my apps down several times a.day. but I think that is muscle memory from having an older iPhone that required it.

I think something must be wrong with your phone. It could be an issue with an app you have installed. When I was having trouble getting the three app to work I reset my phone and set it up as a new device. I got that app to work finally. One of my other apps was conflicting with it. Now my phone just works beautifully again.
