I have a Verizon SM-T337A Tab 4, why does it die when I unplug it from the charger?

I have a Verizon SM-T337A Tab 4

The tablet has an 82% battery charge. It dies every time I unplug the power cord. This is a new tablet. What would cause this? The tablet was factory reset yesterday. The only thing on this tablet is Gmail, currently.

Welcome to Android Central! When you say it dies, do you mean it completely shuts off, and you can't power back on again unless you plug it back in? Or is it just the screen that shuts off?

If it's brand new, I wouldn't waste too much time and just bring it back for an exchange.
