I have both HTC 10 and Nexus 6p but...

The problem is with your expectations to say the least. It less than 5 minutes to browse through the sticky thread for pictures to see that the camera of the HTC 10 is actually amazing.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you might know what you're talking about when it comes to what you think the camera of the HTC 10 should produce. Here's a comparison test where the HTC 10 came out on top. If you disagree with their conclusion, then you're in luck. They've provided samples from each camera in the comparison and you can view them at 100% crop. If you can look through the gallery and identify where the HTC 10 fell short when they stated otherwise, then I'll give your assessment of the HTC 10's camera some credibility and not assume you're grasping at straws.

Until then I'm not sure exactly what you're expecting, not to mention what you think the software should calculate and process as the correct exposure isn't making too much sense.

First, let me say this again if I haven't said it already, the HTC 10 has a fair to good camera. My opinion wouldn't matter to you because you're already biased in favor of the 10. But IMHO, the HTC 10 still blows out highlights. And, there's still considerable flair in low lit scenes from light sources. However, I do believe that if you operate the camera in pro mode you can get great quality shots. I'm an old school amateur photographer when film was popular. I'm perfectly capable of managing exposure and white balances and such, but mostly I don't want to do that on my celly. I use my Nikon for that stuff. You've probably already seen this but.... (See below) And mind you, I don't make purchases based on what reviewers say. I buy what I like, because reviewers can be motivated by other things and maybe their tastes are different than mine. All I did in this post was simply show the difference between the 6p and the 10 given the same scene, time of day, and setting and I got flamed. LOL! I haven't been rude or disrespectful. I've just given a comparison and an opinion AND I OWN THE DAMN PHONE TOO! LMAO! Although many are espousing how great the camera is, it stands to reason that other cameras would do better just based on the simple comparison I included in my post.

Look. The HTC 10 is not the world's greatest camera. But for what it is, it's actually pretty good. MUCH better than their earlier efforts.

Is it faultless? Of course not. Every camera has its faults. But compared to the M9, the 10 is much improved in pretty much every area. Unless you're really picky about picture quality, the 10 is going to be fine for a lot of situations. Oh, and if you like video, the 10 records in lossless FLAC, so it actually records some pretty nice audio. Just a heads up. Only weaknesses I can find is that it does tend to blow out the highlights and the point of focus (not sure if the stills mode uses spot metering) and that the level of stabilization provided by OIS is fairly small. Other than those, I would much rather use the 10 than a lot of HTC's previous offerings. Like I said, it's not the world's best camera, but it is at least much more competitive than previous HTCs, and that is a welcome sight to see.

And if you're wondering, Google would be using their own proprietary method of photo processing in the Nexus. Google handles the software and aspects of hardware design.

PS: As much as I like the camera on the 10, I still prefer the camera on the S7. Autofocus is much faster, launch and capture times are insane and post-processing options are pretty deep.

People getting so defensive over someone's opinion only makes me think that they know it's true, but are trying to justify their purchase. FFS, he said that he enjoys the phone, but not so much the camera. He never said it isn't capable of good photos, but that he doesn't like it as much as others. Samsung, for example, has excellent software that captures perfect images in auto mode. Even if this device could get the exact same quality image in pro mode, I would still prefer the camera that took it in auto mode. It in no way means that I'm saying this camera is bad... I'm saying that I don't prefer it. And to tell him to go back to the Nexus is just idiotic. Just because he doesn't prefer one feature doesn't mean there aren't many other reasons why he prefers the device over his Nexus.

Like I said above, the 10 is not the world's best camera, and it still has some flaws, but as a whole, it's a much more competitive package. It's not on the same level as the S7 IMO, but at least it's not being left far behind in the dust. That's welcome to see.

I think some of us might be a bit too defensive when we see someone criticize a device that we universally like.

I just switched from the S7 Edge to the HTC 10 and I really like it. I prefer the S7's camera and screen, but I pretty much like everything else on the HTC 10 better. It doesn't mean that the camera and screen are bad on the HTC 10... I just prefer those of the S7.

The S7 edge is currently my favorite device of 2016, but the HTC 10 is at a very damn close second. It's a great phone that's the best HTC has put out in a while. Users should be very happy with it.

I can't seem to switch to the HTC 10 completely, but I absolutely can't get rid of it either. I'm a big music aficionado and this phone truly satisfies. I have purchased the Hi-Fi option to Tidal music and I'm truly amazed at the sound quality I'm getting with my Sennheiser momentum wireless 2.0 headphones. I'm blown away by the HTC 10 in that regard and am shocked by the fact that it improves audibly on Bluetooth listening compared to my 6p. I believe boomsound is actually missing a whole low midrange frequency when compared to the 6p, but it does add more upper bass than the 6p. The 6p gets louder and is more satisfying due to the front facing set up, but the HTC offers a more intimate sound. Either way, I'm hooked on the 10.

why every time someone disagree with someone's bad experience with a phone it's called fanboyism? Is it not possible that the other person just haven't had any bad experience or just had a better experience so they just can't relate to what you are saying just like you can't relate to what they are saying?

Maybe this should be called "this is why my HTC 10 is just a backup to my Nexus 6P".

I never called anyone a fanboy other than those who referred to themselves as such. Also, I didn't have a bad experience with the HTC 10. As for not being able to relate, well that's why I attached pictures to my original post. And, I did give the phone some props.

Isn't that pretty much what it is? He's sharing his opinion and stating exactly that? Everyone else is jumping down his throat for giving his opinion on the phone. He never said the phone sucks or that he doesn't like it. And it is pretty fanboy-ish to jump on anyone who's opinion is anything other than "OMG THIS PHONE IS AMAZING!".. I love my HTC 10 but don't really care for the camera. If anyone told me to get rid of it or go back to my old phone because of that, I'd laugh in their face.

I'm on the sell the 10 because it's clearly not what you want in a phone. Nothing wrong with that. Just keep in mind that for many many many people it's exactly what we want in a phone.

I didn't once say u dislike the 10 so I don't know where u picked that up from in my post, and it wasn't specifically about you but a general statement.... Either way u did have a bad experience with the camera hence u uploading the pictures to show us

OK! In fact, I didn't say anything in my post about my disliking the HTC 10. You misread. Please reread my comment to you. It's easy to assume the rest of what you said was either directly or indirectly aimed at me as you didn't point in any particular direction. But, you did focus the comment at any of us who might have spoken unfavorably about the 10, which does include me. So, I don't think my response to you was out of pocket.

I just found something cool, if you take a picture in pro mode, then click the pencil edit button and select raw attachment it DRAMATICALLY increase the quality of the photo. Try it out. Here's a shot with raw attachment 1469473082554.jpg

I have to agree though, the camera is good. But there are definitely still phones on the market with better cameras. I too love this phone but can completely agree with the person who started this thread that it has faults. I wish it wouldnt make those lines from lights at night time (see attached). It's actually really annoying. But as I said the raw attachment setting really helps and it's a good camera 8/10 times. No phone is perfect in all categories. That's why there is a variety. We pick and choose what's most important and make our choice 1469473337081.jpg

I don't care what you post anywhere in any mobile site, there will always be a Sammy fan pronouncing the greatness of Samsung. And, TBH, the Sammy software is garbage after about 4 or 5 months of use. They've built a reputation for laggy and bloated software that they will never live down. I Tried buying my son a galaxy s5 and it's a useless laggy piece of garbage. And, I don't think the s6 is much better. One thing I can say about HTC is that it'll never be laggy and bloated. And, maybe you wanna keep quiet about the camera too, it's not that good....

I would agree to disagree on the laggy. My S7 Edge never had an issue with previous phones (the older Galaxy lines). Also of course there will always be a fan since these companies all have fans. Nothing wrong with that? It is no different than an HTC fan loving his HTC or a Huawei fan loving their Huawei phone -- we like what we like.

I'm not disputing the fan fare for any OEM, but it's rare that you see HTC fans posting in every single Nexus or Sammy forum post. Only Sammy fans post in every forum post whether it's about Sammy or not. And, when I say ”post,” it's almost always to say how Sammy is better than all of the others in some form or fashion. And, here we are with the most current version of the Sammy being the s7 and you can't actually defend the lagginess reputation for one single model prior to the newest one. IMHO that's not much to brag about, considering how smooth HTC, Nexus, and iPhones have been for several years. And, I'd say, give that S7 a couple more months before you really start backing up how lag free it is. Just sayin! The fact that Sammy has that ongoing reputation is the exact reason why I would never buy one for myself. And, I generally hate that when iPhone users decide to switch to Android, that most of them choose Sammy. They almost always go back after the lag fest, which is particularly unbearable if you're coming from an iPhone. I have not met a single Sammy owner outside of the Note series owners who wasn't turned off by Samsung lag. Admittedly, I haven't spoken to many with the S7.
