I have changed from Apple to HTC

There are very few things in the world that are more fun than learning something new!

Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk

I'm willing to bet most iPhone users would disagree with learning being fun! The iPhone has a static os that has not changed much from the original and its users embrace that feature! They cling to it and hold on to it for dear life. They don't want change because if they did, they'd demand it! I mean let's look at this from a really simple perspective.
The iPhone received a 4.3" screen in 2013 nearly 4 years after the first 4.3" screen was on a phone made by HTC in 2009. In smartphone technology a year is 2 generations! When apple made the 5s, the screen was still too small actually, but they sold by the millions. Many an apple fan wants at least a 4.7" screen or bigger, but I'm willing to bet that if it doesn't happen they will not leave their trusty IOS to go learn a new OS despite their desires to have a bigger screen.
Apple fans are loyal to a fault and willing to accept less for their money just because it's made by Apple! And, most of them are terrified by big bad android... Lol!

From meeting people with iPhones, they're just happy that the phone works. They play some games and text while listening to music from time to time, but I've always felt that Android users are more involved in their devices than iPhone users in general. I've met people in Android phones who are glad it just works as well, but I find that mentality of "it just works" more among iPhone users.

Took me a second but I know what you are saying now, and I don't honestly know, it would probably be even simply because the non tech savvy customers would go more on appearance (hardware AND software) and ease of use, which Apple still has to many consumers.

I'd say the M8 beats the iPhone in design. A bigger screen makes it easier to see for those with sight problems (the elderly especially) and the ease of use with Android would attract a lot of people. How many people know what "drag and drop" is compared to "you have to sync everything with iTunes"?

Yep, I have also left the evil empire! The one thing I dont like is the keyboard layout and I dont think it can be changed. Odd that a phone much larger than the 4s has a more cluttered feeling keyboard

I agree with you on m8 build quality being supurb. I would say it is on par with iPhone build quality, simply because I consider a bigger screen a feature, not an influence on the build quality of the device.

The difference between drag and drop and syncing with iTunes will depend on who you talk to. First time I had to sync an Apple device with iTunes was well after the first time I used the drag and drop method to move things to my mobile, and I HATED it. I felt like I had very little control over what I was putting on my device. However, for those that don't care about syncing anything other than their music library, some photos, and maybe a movie or two bought on iTunes, syncing with iTunes is about the easiest possible thing to do. Plug it in, wait a minutes or two, done. But that's how Apple designs their products, to use their own infrastructure in the simplest way possible.

You're with Android now, friend. We can change everything, keyboard included.

Go on the Google Play Store and download SwiftKey. It's a much better keyboard and as far as I know, most of the regular posters here use it (myself included). If you don't like SwiftKey, there's hundreds more to choose from. Android doesn't force you to use anything you don't want to, unlike Apple.

The truth be told, Iphone users are exactly right, Their phones do "just work!" I've been an Android user since the downfall of WebOS, and Android NEVER just worked, so you were forced to be involved in the phone or go to IOS! And, no freedom loving, free thinking, open platform loving smartphone geek can settle for IOS. Not to mention, it's always been kind of boring, limited, and simple. BUT, IT HAS ALWAYS JUST WORKED. And, it worked gracefully, quickly, and with precision, class, and style! We really are just getting that kind of quality with the HTC M8. So, I'm not going to bash IOS users too much because I totally get it. I'm as loyal to my M8 as any fan-boy is to their Iphone. And, with my M8, I really do get why you want it to "just work!"

Completely agree. I haven't seen Android that stable since recent versions, but in really glad don't get crashes or freezes anymore 😁

And I am so glad I did , IPhones have been poorly made since the iPhone 5 come out, and I have had every iPhone from the first one, M8 blows the iPhone out of the water on build quality and usability, how many other people have changed from Apple to HTC ?

I have had an HTC One M8 since the day after it came out on Verizon back in March. I previously had an iPhone 4 that I loved, but I ultimately grew bored and wanted something I could modify more. My iPhone 4 had stellar build quality that was unparalleled by any android phone at the time. The iPhone 5 and 5S also continued the stellar build quality of Apple phones. I have to respectfully disagree that the iPhone 5 is poorly constructed. Apple's iPhone 5 build quality is really good and I believe the HTC One M7 and ultimately the HTC One M8 were finally catching Android up with Apple.

The iPhone 5 and 5S are wonderful phones and I would recommend them to anyone. However, in my personal opinion, the HTC One M8 is better than both of them and I would not trade mine for any other phone right now.

I've seen that as well, but the problem with iPhones is that they force you to have only one (or I guess 2 now) choice. You can't choose a phone with a bigger screen. You can't choose a phone with a different layout. You can't choose anything. You get an iPhone or you don't, period. My mom just got her first smart phone, a Moto X. I told her to go with Android over iPhone because of the bigger screen size and it only required her to have a google account, not an Apple account. She didn't need to do anything special to get it working, it just works. Nothing complicated or crazy about it. She has a hard time seeing smaller screens, so an iPhone wouldn't work for her.

If Apple were to release iOS to work on different devices made by others, it would be better. Or at least produce a line of different size phones to give people the choice of what they want and how they want to use it. Instead, it's an iPhone or it's not.

Swype is also good, I've been with them since early Beta. Why type when you can Swype?! lol

Seriously... I recently gave my mom my old Razr maxx hd bc she broke her iPhone.. I was teaching her how to Swype, with my cousins (who all use iphones) around... They were trying to act like it was unnecessary and way too hard.. then we had a race to type "merry Christmas to all"... I beat them all in half the time :D

Swype FTW

SwiftKey uses both, actually. You can swype or or type, either way works fine with SwiftKey. I'm not a fan of swype myself but I like that it gives you the option.

You can do both with Swype too.. PLUS, you hit that little dragon icon and you can speak to type. It's pretty accurate too.

maybe its just me, but Ive tried to use Swype over Swiftkey and I just cant, Swype is clunky compared to Swiftkey

I have issues with both. In SwiftKey, I don't like that I can't capitalize a word while I'm typing! Mostly, I think Swype was more accurate while typing, whereas SwiftKey has way better predictions!

Also, Swiftkey doesn't work within all of my applications ie... My fitness pal. And, it will not let you flow letter and number combinations like M8 or S5, you have to type them every single time. Swype will recognize those keys and complete them every time.

Yup, I stick with Swype bc it's the most accurate in my experience.

I switched from an iPhone 4s to the M7 a year ago and can say I would never go back. I switched for the larger, better screen and the looks. I got so much more. My 16 yo son upgraded to the M8 Saturday from a 4s and has loved it. Me and son had the discussion that my wife wouldn't like so many choices but she saw his phone and by Monday had one in her hands. So far she loves her M8 and says she should have done this sooner.
