And have just recently figured out that the Rom Manager ad superuser that come with it aren't compatible with my phone. But it was fine for awhile, but now my superuser keeps crashing/force closing and i cannot grant any new apps proper permissions. Until I can get the cwm uninstalled properly, any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

gingerbreak is not the problem with zvd. the problem is rom manager. DONT USE IT. you could try wiping your data/factory resetting while in recovery and flash a new rom...

Im gunna go out on a limb and assume I'll need to use a PC to be able to accomplish this?

Factory reset will not touch the sdcard. It will however erase your contacts and all other apps, settings, and user data that is NOT backed up with your google account. If your contacts are synced with your google account, you don't need to worry about losing them.

Are you able to get root access with ADB?

Ill be honest, for the longest time i thought rooting with gingerbreak and romman. and cwm was all rooting was about. I know my way around a command prompt, if the directions are clear. I just tried resetting and clearing cache in the stock recovery. after turning it on and setting up my accounts, superuser downloaded itself.

Dont worry bud, Ill go scan through the forums. I just need to get this dang superuser off of here so i can commence the rooting

Super user means you have root! Super user takes the administrator position and acts as a middle man between apps and root access. That way, apps don't get root without your permission.

Nope. Im running 2.2 zvd, kernel says 2.6.32.9 I believe. Ive got a mess of files on my sdcard, I just get flustered with the whole process. I have rebornrom on my sdcard, think I extracted it. And xionia_cwma_12518.6.img, unrecognizable. Both saved on the root sdcard. Also a flash image that ive unzipped. These dang tutorials just cant keep you in one place

When I go into recovery mode, I only get the stock recovery;
1Reboot.
2Instal update.zip from sdcard(which isnt there).
3Wipe data.
4Clear cache.

Zvd can be rooted via the phone, but honestly it is 50 times easier with the use of a pc. If you have one that is the way to go. Look at the stickies for the automated root tool and use that. Even if you are rooted, you can use it to install xionia. Then once you are rooted with a custom recovery you can pretty much do it all with a phone and a wifi connection (to ease and increase download speeds only)

How else can I root my phone? All these curtains and forks in the road leave me to believe superuser is the only.way

Superuser does nothing without being rooted. It takes advantage of being rooted by allowing you to choose to allow root permission, that is all it does.

Do you have access to a PC? It really is best and if you get in trouble there is NOTHING you can do without one.

That being said, the gingerbreak.apk should be able to take care of you. Download, open and follow the prompts. I have never used this method myself so I can't help you there.

Downloaded. Installed. Then superuser FC. Says "app com.superuser.noshofou.android.su not responding" or some crazy nonsense. I take it my binary is outdated... But I havent had problems with it prior to this mess

And this thread is a double post of some of the others. hlxanthus has said the same thing I did in the other one.
