i just don't understand why people turn off AOD?

You can still click the power button to get to the lock screen and all your notifications will be there just like before. On S8 Plus, you can also press the on screen home button from AOD to get to your notification on your lock screen.
I set my home button thought to take me straight to the home page. Power button to the lock screen :). This way you have every thing you can wish for.

AOD for a quick glance of what pending notifications you have.
Power button gives me a bit more info (lock screen regulate notification style)
Home button bypasses everything and get me straight to my home screen.

In addition to all that great stuff you mentioned, you can also wave your hand over the phone to go to the lock screen without even touching itツ

I completely forgot about this!
For folks who are interested, you can turn this on under Settings - Accessibility - Dexterity and Interaction - Easy Screen Turn on

I turned it off on the S7 edge till after the nougat update, before nougat it was useless. Coming from the note 7 to the S7 edge, the AOD was a huge downgrade from note 7. Glad to have the good AOD again, now it's always on.
That's what I did with the S 7 edge until they updated. The note 7 spoiled us. Lol

It actually has a surprisingly high impact on battery life in standby. As such I turn it off. I don't want to have to flip my device face down or keep it in my pocket.

AOD is great if you dont mind using some of the battery.

I used to trade back and forth between notes and motorola droids, when motos screen display came out i was hooked and wished samsung would do it, and then they did.

I dont even have the led light turned on for notifications anymore.

I think i read somewhere that AOD uses about 1 percent an hour, but the battery life was good enough on the 7edge, note 7 and now 8plus that its not a big deal..

Its a great option to have.

Re: i just don't understand....

I have it on, really like the feature, doesn't seem to drain battery much either. My worry is if it will burn out the screen quicker? For that reason I'm considering switching it off.
Does anyone have a confirmed answer on this?

I don't understand why people turn it off either but it's their choice I guess and everyone is different. I also don't understand why a lot of people turn off mobile data or push notifications and location etc just to try save a few percent battery over a day. I like my smart phone to stay smart at all times, but it's their phone not mine. I've had Always On Display on phones for many years with Nokia/Microsoft Lumia phones so when Samsung copied them I was over the moon to have it on my Galaxy s7 and S8 too. It's one of the main features I look for in a phone nowadays and have it on my LG G6 now too. I spend a lot of time driving at work and my phone is mounted to the windscreen so having my notifications and time displayed right in my eye line without having to touch the phone is great (even with my AndroidWear smart watch on). It's great too see so many people liking it now too because I clearly remember when it was announced as a feature on the s7 before release there was so many people on here screaming "gimmic" and saying they certainly wouldn't be using it and I knew they'd change their tune after giving it a shot

I keep it on because I like my device to tell me the time. I don't want to have to ask it!

 The AoD=Always on Display an important feature to keep
Watch the time & date +battery % is important Info..But
if is annoyed for some users it canBe disabled. Some
Phn brands block the removal of key features

How high? It's more informative to measure battery use in mA than in surprise.

For me, using a custom image on an S8+, AOD seems to burn less than 1 mA. So that's less than 24 mAh per day, from a 3500 mAh battery.

Yeah, I loved it on my S7 Edge and it's even nicer on my S8 plus. I couldn't care less if it uses a little bit of battery. I like being able to just look at the screen and see the time without waking it. I also love the second screen on the LG V20, which I just had. I've got to have some kind of AOD.
