After the announcement that Motorola is not going to release ICS for the Atrix 2, I've made the decision that I will buy iPhone next time. They support their customers with the newest software - all at the same time. When I bought Atrix 2 I was told it would be upgraded. I have an iPad and really have been waiting for a good retina type display on an android tablet. But I've given up. I think it will be years before anyone has their act together and keeps their promises.

The only Android phone that has the newest software at all times is the Nexus direct from Google.

Although, fwiw and updates or not, your software is still more advanced than iOS ;)

You should judge the device and the OS on their own merits, not solely on whether it will get the next update. There are always complaints that arise when an OS is updated, and yes, that includes iOS as well. Apple didn't just royally screw up their maps app with iOS 6; there are complaints now of slow wifi connections, and my wife has noted general sluggishness on her iPhone 4S after the update. So if the Atrix has otherwise been working well, then why not stick with it until it becomes obsolete? Because that's what iPhone users do anyway. As soon as the next one comes out, the vast majority line up to get it.

In any case, good luck with your next phone!

Speaking from experience, updating to iOS x with the previous year's iPhone just turns your iPhone from top of the line to a slugfest.

Never take what an OEM says to the bank when it comes to updates. Sure Moto may have stated that in the beginning but if sales weren't as expected and the device isn't getting enough attention then Moto probably looked at what is the point in putting hundreds of man hours into perfecting ICS to run on a certain device, especially if the outcome doesn't help it sell any better.

Then you have the other side of the coin where OEM's and carriers have said a certain device is EOL (End of line) and not going to be stocked/sold any further yet they still continue to push out bug fixes and even OS updates on occasion.

It comes down to how well a device is selling and overall interest playing a major deciding factor in receiving future support in updates, at least that seems to be the trend.

Final thoughts, could be Moto decided after some early testing that bringing ICS to the Atrix 2 wouldn't improve the overall experience to be worth the efforts of getting it done. Sometimes its hardware limitations too but that excuse is also becoming a thing of the past.
