I Love this Freakin' Thing!

I also came from the recalled Note 7. I was very disappointed in what happened to the Note 7 but, I'm thankful now that I was able to return it and get this device. It's a dream phone. Picture quality is superb. Navigating the operating system is extremely fluid. Google assistant is really interesting. Been playing around with it more and more. Last night I got it to tell me knock knock jokes. Pretty cool. Unlimited photo and video storage at original resolution is nice too. Battery life has been stellar for me. And the overall feel and look is great. I've always wanted an iPhone that ran stock Android. Now I have it. Thanks Samsung.

It's worth noting that some of the software is from HTC. And that the htc10 had the lowest touch latency of any smartphone, including iphones. Would be interesting to see if the pixel is the same as the HTC 10 or maybe even better in this regard. But maybe the iPhone 7 improved touch latency too.

But then again, at this point it isn't the sort of thing you could even perceive so I guess it really doesn't matter much.

I'm a big fan as well. The live earth wallpapers are a total gimmick, but a really NICE gimmick. The camera is great, just a really good experience overall with this unit. The gesture controls for the fingerprint sensor have to be my favorite though, such a small thing but supremely helpful for me who often needs to discreetly check my notifications in meetings. I can now do this one handed so quickly most people think I'm only checking the time.

I want to see some front facing VIDEO... I use my phone for business and one-on-one videos..

I can only comment that the difference between fb messenger video chat and Duo video chat is night and day. Fb is choppy and not clear, Duo is as if the person is live Infront of my camera. I'm amazed by the quality of the front camera in a duo chat

Call it what you will, I **love** them. I am using Half Dome right now and I am continually captivated by it. It has been a long, long time since a wall paper excited me.

N5 and N7 owners may recognize that title. :)

For any N7 owners on the fence, just go buy a Pixel XL. It does not have the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach to it's feature set - thankfully. The Pixel is just simple, fast, consistent and on an entirely different level of software/hardware integration that has to be used to be fully appreciated.

I would if I could find one anywhere.

i dont think HTC will have any of its software in pixel except if the module is made by HTC. for example the camera module is made by sony and it will have sony firmware in it.
as far as i can see HTC makes none of the components that uses firmware(HTC makes the battery though)

here is the quote from the article and it seems like they removed reference of codename when it was a nexus device

"Though we do not know when exactly Google decided to re-brand the HTC Nexus devices as Google Pixel devices, there is strong support to the notion that Pixel phones began their life as Nexus phones given the reliability of the leaks this cycle and the Pixel code names fitting the Nexus naming convention. Thus, we are assuming that, perhaps for quite a bit of time in the Pixel phones’ development cycle, HTC was involved much like any other OEM was involved with the development of the Nexus devices. There is not much in the way of direct evidence left behind in the software, but circumstantial evidence from two well-known developers backs up our claim."

Both front and back have their merits. Having been on front FPS for the last few years, I am surprised by how much I like the Pixel FPS. There are a few times that I wish it was on the front, however, there are more times that I have liked it being in the back. Especially since just tapping turns on the screen. With the Note you had to push, then scan. The Pixel method gives a slightly better experience.

Having used the Honor 5X (rear FPS) and Moto Z Force Droid (front FPS), I can say for my use, front FPS wins every time.

In addition, the trusted devices never worked for me on the N7 (maybe due to AirWatch), they work flawlessly on the Pixel, even with AirWatch.

I hate Airwatch - but it hasn't blocked trusted devices (Moto 360) on either my Moto X Pure Edition or Moto Z Force Droid.

Hate is being nice. I don't know why trusted devices did not work right on my Note 7, AW was the only thing I can blame it on. You came from two pretty clean versions of Android on Moto phones, so that could be part of it. Maybe it did not play well with Knox??

I gave up on it because the N7 FPS was good enough, and well recall.

That's weird. Trusted device worked on all my phones so far. I trust my Bluetooth headset so I can easily swipe to unlock while at work.

Yeah it is weird. Had it not been recalled, I probably would have come here to trouble shoot. I burned an evening trying to solve it, and then just said #$#@

Just keep checking - I finally checked one evening and the "Out of Stock" thing was gone, so I ordered a Quite Black Pixel XL 128 GB and it's coming 11/23 - 11/25. Just keep at it and be PATIENT... really, I'm not and I got one! I'm with AT&T so I'm just taking it to my store when it comes and having them install a SIM for me!

Yea I don't so much mind the wait for fulfillment of an order, I expect that to take a while, but I'd just like to be able to order the thing and know I have one coming lol. I check Google constantly. Signed up on the wait list. Never have seen that unicorn 128 Black XL available. I've got a 7+ and S7 to hold me so it's not like I'm in dire need, but that patience thing, I have none of it.

I totally gave up on the "Waiting List" - I am beginning to wonder if it even exists. I have not heard one person yet say that they received an email saying they had been picked. I was patiently waiting, while checking every chance I had and one night I looked and almost fell out of my office chair. I rubbed my eyes 'cuz I thought they were playing tricks with the missing "Out of Stock". I immediately clicked the "Pixel XL" button, then the "Quite Black" button, then the "128 GB" button and then the "$99.00 Protection Pkg" button and headed on down the road to "Complete Purchase"... JUST KEEP TRYING. Early morning, late evening...

For me the camera is the one which blows me away, prefer this over my iPhone 7 plus which says a lot. Next year when Google has more time and input on the design the Pixel will blow every other phone. Good start by Google on the Pixel line of phones.
