When I plug in my Fascinate my computer doesn't see a thing? I've set USB mode to media nothing, Storage still nothing... Even enabled and disabled debugging.

All the USB seems to do is charge phone...

I had the same issue on my computer and laptop. I was running windows xp pro and the computer wouldn't see my phone or my sd card. I downloaded the usb drivers for my phone and it fixed it on my laptop but not my desktop for some reason. I'm assuming there is a software conflict somewhere on my desktop preventing it from working properly, but my laptop works fine now.

Try using a different USB port on your computer. 1 of the 2 on the side of my monitor doesn't work for file reading/transfers. I've also found that if my phone is plugged in when starting it (or if i reboot my phone without unplugging it) my desktop won't see it when it comes up. Just remove and plug the USB back in again and it works. And of course, make sure you're acutally mounting the card. When you plug the phone in, pull down the notification bar at the top, select the USB connected message, then choose mount. It's also a good idea to do this same process to turn off USB storage when you're done.

I second Kevin. I always have to pull down on my notification bar and select mount in order for it to show up. When I plug it in, it gives me a pop up letting me it is plugged in, then to get the drive to show up, i have to mount the SD. No biggie really, just annoying.

Sounds like the above got it, but a few other things to consider. Do NOT use a USB hub. While they often work, the connection isn't reliable enough to use for doing important transfers.

Also, I had an issue where a certain USB device (a headset w/ mic) would really mess up how my system saw USB connected items. I had to disconnect the headset if I wanted to be able to even see my phone on the computer. Weird, but it happens.

Figured it out... I was using the wrong USB cable.... (the one that came with my old LG dare)... Charges the Fascinate only..

Thanks for everyones help, Garret

This is an intentional feature of the phone and you will come to like it. Especially if you've had smart phones before. Having to manually enable the mount of the SD card allows you to have the phone plugged in without it mounted. Once it's mounted, your phone can't see the card when your computer can. Thus, you can be charging your phone on your computer and your phone can still access data on your SD card.

I'll ask this question here..since this seems to have more to do with my usb connection and less to do with the actual process...I want to root my Fascinate, but when I try it acts like the phone isn't connected...if I have the phone connected and install the drivers it recognizes the phone and all it's uses..but then reverts back to not recognizing it again. Any ideas ?

edit : using windows xp and the cable that came with the phone..have made sure all settings are as the directions stated .

Try using a different USB port. If that doesn't work it sounds more like an issue the PC is having with the drivers. Try a different driver pack (make sure you're choosing the right one as they're different for 32 or 64 bit systems). Worse case, you can root with a one click app like z4root. It's not on the market anymore but you can still find the .apk on sites like 4shared.com. But still, that won't solve your main problem and you'd still have issues with file transfers.

Yeah..I tried various usb ports...I have a bunch..and they all seem to work fine in reading anything else I plug in...so..yeahy..on to the drivers next I guess...I'll play with it some more and will be back if that doesn't help...thank you !

Ok..so the message I get is as follows..

'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

Then it says if I'm not connected to turn on debugging, install the correct drivers, check the usb port and cable and phone and try again, all of which I've tried and all should be good.

So it says hit any key to continue and if I do it says starting..this should take a few minutes..then it takes all of a second or so..then dumps me at the end of the screen.

edit : decided to poke around in my device manager and make sure everything is reading as it should..and it shows the phone as connected and states it's working properly...it shows both a samsung android composite device in the usb section as well as a samsung adb composite interface...is something missing here ?
