I must say this ...

alot of this is fair tho.

everyone knows this phone isnt perfect, but honestly its the best phone out for now (except the charge if you're into that, which is cool), and there will always be better phones coming out.

is the tbolt awesome? yes (especially if you have lte and dont mind less than great battery or have the extended which is too big for normal humans jk)
is it the best phone ever>? no but nothing will be till next year and then that phone will suck and the next one will be amaazing i swear.

Thank you for giving a civil reply. And U agree the bolt has alot of great qualities. Especially for people with big hands like me :p

The only real issues I have with this phone is the switch gear. The power button is terrible and the volume rocker is not far behind. Otherwise its OK.

The specs for this phone are quite impressive overall.

I have not seen anybody mention that the first LTE phone probably took a lot longer than usual in the Research & Development phase. Testing was also more complicated on HTC's side and Verizon's side. Therefore, it is not logical to expect a dual core processor, among other things.

When developing a product, you can't chase the latest specs on every single component, or you will never release it because there's always something better right around the corner. At some point, a decision that the processor (and memory, among other things) are good enough for the purpose they are being used for so you can move on to the next step. Availability of an ample supply of parts for manufacturing is also an important factor.

Dual core would have delayed the process even more. It would have also added cost, and the phone is expensive enough as is.

It would have been nice to have Android 2.3 from the start, but software development is complex as well. 2.2 was probably current when development started, so they based everything off that when developing Sense and the other HTC and VZW customizations. That is how software development works - you take a snapshot of the code, decide on the set of features, and debug from there. If you are constantly adding new features and changing without a plan, it will be a disaster.

Sure, the open source community can push out Gingerbread ROMs all day long, and I appreciate their effort. But they also have different goals than the device manufacturers and wireless carriers, and don't have to worry about radio firmware, device design, manufacturing, etc.

The biggest disappointment for me is the signed bootloader and more difficult than necessary rooting process, but at the same time I can understand why VZW and HTC don't want people complaining and trying to send bricked phones in for warranty service, among other issues.

Bloatware is annoying but can be ignored if you don't want to root the device.

If having the latest version of Android is the biggest priority, buy a Nexus device. Hopefully one will appear on Verizon soon. Whether or not this happens, realize that there will never be a perfect phone with every feature you want.

Honestly, the only thing that disappoints me about this phone is the OTA update issue. I don't think its the 4g because I'm in a 3g only area so it must be the software which can and must be fixed. So many people complain about the specs, why would they buy this phone then if u think its outdated? Also, its the first 4g phone on Verizon, which demand was high, still doesn't explain why Skype didn't come but you have to have know that LTE would have problems from the get go. All I'm saying is if ur truly dissatisfied, go and tell VZW and I'm sure they will switch to a different phone or give u credit in some form. That always makes me a bit happier.

My biggest issue with this phone which making less and less an HTC fan. I love the build quality that HTC brings, but their designs as of late has been less desirable. Motorola started this endeavor now HTC as well. Luckily Samsung has step up in there overall finish of there product ever since they came out with the Nexus S also making me envious.

P.S Still like my Thunderbolt but at same time wish I had CM7 Thunderbolt soon or was on a one year contract.

Want to clear this thread is NOT A BASHING THREAD at all on the HTC Thunderbolt.

Stating the flaws a devices has which are true is not a bashing. Please everyone calm down when you read about the cons with this devices. Everyone in this thread is just discussing the issues with device in their own opinion and not at all a bashing.

Yes I agree some have not had a single issue with phone or have found way to resolve the issues the phone has but still the devices issues that have been noted. The HTC Thunderbolt for being first LTE devices is doing pretty well as it seems LTE is more complex. This probably why the other 4G carriers are not using LTE except for AT&T switching to LTE and Sprint is in limbo with Wimax or LTE. Regardless LTE is the future and all carriers most likely will switch over this year or the next.

I wish all the negative Nancys would just relax. Its so funny how misery loves company. I have to say this phone, for the few months I've had it is the best smart phone I've ever had. Its fast as hell, the screen is perfect for me, the camera is amazing, LTE is incredibly fast (although a battery hog but I'm sure that will get worked out), well built and does everything anyone can want it to.

I have to say my Dinc was a great phone also but the Tbolt just expands on the Dinc's greatness. Yes all phones have issues right after they initially get released but they always get worked out. Look at all the Iphones, Blackberrys, etc.

To all you negative people out there, relax. Despite what ever little issues this phone may have, which I have not experienced much of any, this is still the best VZW Android phone out there.

We can gripe all we like about the TBolt, but the fact is (I think) that it's still the best phone on VZW. It has it's problems, but... what's the alternative?

-Frank

The alternative is obvious - it's the phone after this one. ;)

These threads are painful. If he doesn't own one, to even start the thread is stupid. Otherwise, he may be just as stupid for commenting on his gripes, because we knew most those things before we purchased it. With that being said, each of the phones mentioned have their own issues (or will when they are released). This is the best phone I have ever owned, and other than batter life, couldn't ask for more right now. Hopefully there will be something great around January 2012 when I can upgrade. Until then, things will only get better once an official GB drops and the devs get to it. Right now, we have working skype on 2.2, netflix, etc. I am running BAMF GB with sense 3.0 features, it is great, minimal to no issues, other than camera lag, but a reasonable trade off for now. Things will get so much better, just sit back and wait.

My intention was to start up a conversation asking after all the delays this phone has been through why did HTC and Verizon not handle things better? Aren't they supposed to torture test ota updates before pushing them?

In these forums, it seems to me that pre-release a phone can do no wrong & post-release a phone can do no right. The problem with this trend is that there are prospective buyers on the fence that are trying to decide which phone they want, which phone they want to lock themselves into a 20 month contract, and this pre-release/post-release attitude change makes it very difficult to make an accurate decision.

These other phones you mention are pre-release. Let's wait until they been out for 4 weeks, so we can see how bad of a POS the forums think they are. My advice to any prospective buyer is compare the Thunderbolt to what is already out at least 4 weeks, so you can see what the problems are with your comparison phone.

My Bolt is not perfect, but it meets my needs. I have no interest in switching carriers, so whether Sprint or ATT or T-Mobile have better phones I can care less. If it's not on Verizon, it's not on my shopping list.

While I could create a long list of pros and cons, the bottom line for me is whether it is the best phone that Verizon has at the time I want to buy. Period.

Of course, you can dream of the "superphone" and then compare ANY phone to that and point out how it falls short.

The legitimate comparison is not against your expectations or your dream phone, but against the other phones you have the option of buying.

Every single smartphone I've owned had bugs, glitches, updates. My BlackBerry 8330 had a memory leak that would cause my email and messages to get deleted. It had way too little memory. My Tour had too many bugs to list, but one major one was caused by an official VZW OS that bricked it.

Every phone released has these thing. Every new device even. The HTC Sensation and the Droid Bionic will be no different in that regard.

The above poster got it exactly right: all pre released devices can do no wrong and all post released devices get picked apart. That's just the nature of it.

Loving my Bolt, even with the minor bugs I'm experiencing.

I've had the TB since day one and I don't agree with anyone here I guess. I'm not as far to one side as INK and I'm certainly not on the other "almost fanboy" side as some of the other posts in here.

Possibly one of the biggest problems with this phone was HTC's over the top hype about "not your dream phone but the one after that". Its definitely neither one of those. It has many issues, its not perfect and it has provided a number of disappointments. On the other hand, it can be a nice piece of machinery if you're lucky enough to have one without all the battery issues and now rebooting issues.

Here's where it gets dicey. Being on Verizon we can only choose from phones that they carry, that makes some other nice options unavailable for us and unless you're willing to change carriers (I'm not) then we work with what we have.

For the most part I do like my TB but its no dream phone much less the one after that. I will see what comes out over the next few months and give them some "maturity" time to find out what their problems are and I could possibly decide to move on to one of those or I might decide to stay with the TB. I'm not one of those who gets so involved with my phone that anyone who doesn't like it must be a fool, they just have a different opinion. That's ok with me, I don't feel the need to hit, scream or throw a tantrum.

Right now I'm running rooted with BAMF 1.6.3 and I'm pretty happy with the TB. I shouldn't have had to root the phone, debloat the damn thing and put on a new rom to end up with a device that I find finally functional.

Everyone has their own opinion, and they have a right to their own opinion. Rather than get all vexed out about Ink's viewpoint why don't we just adhere to the old maxim, YMMV. And his did.

Eh, it's just a slogan. What did you want them to say? "It's your only choice if you're on Verizon, and it's an ok phone!" That's not as catchy.

Every slogan is far reaching and usually doesn't accurately describe the real life experience. I think we all know that.

Except for that "drop it like it's hot" soda. That actually is what happens when I drink that stuff.

Thank you and I truly do like the Thunderbolt Its just I think as customers we shouldn't have to settle for anything less then what we expect. Without us they would be out of business so it is very much their jobs to please us, and the bugs this phone has doesn't please me.

I hear Das BAMF is a really great rom i've never witnessed it though. and thats exactly what I did I played with the phone a little and let it mature to see what would happen, and things didn't go well.

I agree entirely that the bugs should be shouted out loud and clear, and they have, and HTC/Verizon are taking action (whether effectively or not is another question). You have every right to express your frustration about those things that should be fixed (the reboots) or are sub-par (the battery life).

But your original list of dissatisfactions goes far beyond the legitimate flaws of the phone and well into "wishlist" items, all the things you would want from a phone at this time, even if they were never advertised for this phone and no single phone on Verizon has anywhere near all of these features. In fact, you knew almost all of that about the phone when you bought it.

Did this phone come with major bugs that aren't acceptable? Yes.

I suppose that's a subjective statement. I haven't encountered any issues with gps, data, or rebooting, so for me it's been a good product.
