I need a Feature phone for my son

Heres my problem. I was going to get a smartphone for my son (he is 10) on EBAY to avoid having to pay for a data plan. I just found out that it doesn't matter where I get the phone from that if its a smartphone, once activated, you have to get the data plan on on it.
So now I am looking into the Feature phones from Verizon that have a sliding keyboard and a touch screen. There are only two that I see whuich are the LG Cosmos Touch and the Kin Two. Does anyone have these and would recommend them or are there more choices of phones with a sliding keyboard and touch screen that I don't know about that you would recommend.

Another option that's a little higher up on the food chain, although not a *sliding* keyboard, is the Droid Pro. The stationary keyboard it has would be a little more rugged sans the sliding mechanism of the other two phones you mentioned. Not sure if this is too nice a phone though for that age.

Please check out the ALIAS 2. it is an amazing phone, if i had to switch back to a feature phone that would be my only choice. it has E-ink keys, they change from a regular keypad to a QWERTY board depending on how you open the phone this allows them to use less keys and makes it a real comfort to type using it.

i know it doesnt have a touch screen but it is a great feature phone.

I would go with the LG Cosmos

Thanks for the suggestions. I am leaning towards the Lg Cosmos Touch at this point. The rep at verizon said there will be new phones coming out in January so I might just wait until then.
