Android Central Question
I made my own ringtones. I uploaded them to my Pixel 2. I installed ES File manager. I have the option to use my custom ringtones when choosing a ringtone for my contacts. I want certain contacts to have their own ringtone. This worked on most of the contacts however, I have three contacts with two phone numbers, cell and landline. Those contacts will only use the default ringtone. I tried separating the numbers into two contacts. It seems the connection of the two contacts is still there, based on what I see on the caller ID. The landline is listed in contacts as the the address but it still shows the person's name. So, the contacts are "connected" even though they are separate and the custom ringtone will not play, only the default.
It was suggested to me to use zedge. I installed the free version to see if I liked it but because it shares ringtones, I can't use it. I use my favorite songs as ringtones. I don't own the copyright. So that's not an option based on their terms and conditons.
I think the key is to separate the contacts and disconnecting them completely, because the contacts with just one phone number, the ringtones work. But I can't figure out how to get the contact list to lose the old connection. Any suggestions?
I was able to set custom ringtones for all contacts, even those with two phone numbers, without a problem on my prior 4 androids, all Samsungs. I didn't need an app to help me do it. I don't like that on the Pixel you can't see on the contact listing what ringtone is selected for that contact. If I could see it, then maybe I'd know what will work. As it is, even if it does work, you usually have to reboot and wait before it takes effect. I've rebooted and waiting only to get no change. I hope someone can help with this.
