Hi my name is Sean and I have the m7 and I am thinking about getting the m9. for the for those who actually have it do you like it and have you actually had any problems of it overheating. I am thinking about getting it this Saturday. I want only honest opinions from people who have the phone. my usage is light during work medium to heavy after work. I don't play games on my phone. I do stream music and watching videos. thank you in advance.

I don't have the device, but I will say this. I think the M9 is more geared for people like you. Updating from an M7 or older device. From what I understand, the heating issues have been addressed a little, but that can also depend greatly on use case.

My overall suggestion is this: If you want to get it, do it. If you get it through your carrier, you have 14 days (typically) to return/exchange it. Just keep one thing in mind, and that is the battery may need several days to find it's groove. It has a similar battery to my M8 and it took 6 days before I got good battery life.

I had the M7 also before going to the M9. No the M9 does not over heat and the M7 gets hotter than the M9. If you like the M7 you will love the M9 it's a beast when it comes to heavy use. Some say they don't get good battery life but overall I get great battery life. I will say that I think there is a problem in lollipop that will cause battery drain that an update should fix. Based on your use you should be more than fine with the M9 and like golfdriver said you can always return it if you don't like it.

Mine doesn't get hot very often. Warm sometimes, but not hot. Using it heavily while plugged in charging seems to be a way to get it hot pretty quickly. (I'm talking heavier gaming, Hi-Def video, things like that. Not necessarily browsing the web, email, texting, etc.). As far as overheating to the point of getting a warning message or the phone shutting down, it hasn't happened yet. I've noticed that it can get pretty warm/hot using outdoors on a hot sunny day, but all phones will do that. As I'm sure you know, metal phones just tend to get warmer than devices made of other materials. This causes false worry because it's just heat dissipation most of the time. That's actually a good thing. Plastic keeps the heat trapped inside, and can eventually cause internal damage. All in all, if overheating is the only issue holding you back, I'd say not to worry about it. I don't find it any warmer than other metal phones I've had.

(Keep in mind, during initial setup the phone will probably get pretty warm. Especially leaving it plugged in while you dl all your apps, media, etc. This is not an indication of how it behaves in day to day use. It just has to work pretty hard for setup.)

No heat issues with mine so far, I am not a heavy gamer though so I think with your usage it would be similar to mine.

I am really enjoying owning an M9, I didn't have an M8 but a friend did and I think the upgrade from M7 to M9 is a more considerable one.

Mine gets a little warm with heavy usage, but never to the point where I can't use it or it overheats. I don't find it materially different than the other phones I've owned.

Thank you everybody for your nice response I'm probably going to get it this Friday

I went from M7 to M9. My M7 actually got hotter than M9 does.

I upgraded from the m8 to m9.

And in all honesty, I'd say the M8 is better than M9.

I don't know why but... Having both side by side;

M8's screen seems brighter and more saturated than the M9.

M8 feels thinner (slightly slippier) than the M9.

M8 sounds slightly louder than the M9.

There's a difference between the software experience between the two. But sense 6 still looks very nice and fast to use. Well I'd give the software part to the M9. Its better on the M9.

Battery life has been the same for me.

Both get equally warm. Nothing to worry about.

The point however is, that, if you're one of those people who WANT the latest thing, get the M9. But if you're a rational guy who just wants an equally good experience as with the M9, get the M8 and save money. And if you can, try getting your hands on the GPE of the M8. Either ways, I think the M8 is better.

I think I'll sell both to get a Note4 or the droid turbo. I used to be an HTC fanboy. But they haven't delivered this time. Looking at the ME9 and M9 plus and all the stuff that's been coming out I wonder what HTC has in mind.

I like consumer-product security with the device I own to be somewhat future proof. I thought I got it in the M9. But after using it for a while, I feel that it's not future proof at all.

I'm not happy.

You are concerned about future proofing and your options are year old phones. Why not wait for a Note 5 at this point?

Exactly my point. Those year old phones seem more future proof than the M9. You have to understand the term future proof. For a phone to be future proof it needs to have built quality which would last you at least two years and look the same as it was on day one. The software needs to be updated as time goes by. Camera needs to work well enough so that even two years later it shouldn't matter to you because it's getting the job done in more than just a good manner. And finally, it needs to stay relatively new. Yearly cycles don't hurt the phone as much as what Sony and HTC are doing.

I know I'll get aaaaaall that with the Turbo or the Note4. Of course Galaxy s6 and G4 have the same qualities. But I like to wait and compromise on 'getting the latest' in order to get the 'best on a budget' some time later.

Edit: I am on SPRINT if it matters. I do not see that a factor in my comments below.
==============================================================
I run some background _apps_ whenever I am away from home.
Sensorly which uses your phone and other users to gage signal strength by carrier and signal type. The app includes user adjustments to limit when it runs and how much battery it may have in a battery charge cycle..
LTE Discovery
Signal Check
Yahoo Mail
SMS text (default)

Edit to add apps:
Lookout security
Sprint Connections Optimizer seems to take more battery than I first thought.
Google Play auto updater restricted to WiFi because I do not want it updating when I have a real need.

My HTC One M9 gets very warm and in some cases hot in my shirt pocket with a jacket on. If I fail to run the first three apps, then not so much of a concern. They also affect daily battery life. This is my first HTC, I have no way to compare to other HTC products. I did not run the first three apps on my previous cell phone, so I have no fair comparison.
When home on a good Wi-Fi signal and not running the first three apps, I have no issue with heat when charging or not. I do run an app Battery Doctor which helps control the battery charge rate. That may help with that issue.

One other observation (opinion) This HTC jumps from tower to tower like a fickle woman. That can affect CPU, battery, memory and may contribute to the heat problem.

Battery Doctor is the biggest waste of time. Android already manages apps. Force closing them actually takes more battery and more heat from the SOC and drains more battery life in the process reloading the app again when it can just stay dormant in the background and load quickly when needed. All those battery savers on the playstore do more harm than good.

if I was going to get the M 8 I would have done so last year the reason I did not upgrade to the m8 is because of the camera they put the same camera that is in my M 7. I have used them m9 in the store and it does have an excellent camera sensor you just need to mess with the settings to get a good picture I could DSLR camera. even Android Central have said you can get great pictures with the camera but you have to mess with the settings. even I was considering the m8 I would have done so last year I'm looking at newer phones. not last year's models. and I am particular to HTC but I am open to other options. but I want an honest opinions of people who have the m9 I have seen the m8 helded I had seen the m9 I think it has better build quality. You also think I'm coming from the m7 I want to future proof phone and I know the m9 is going to get more updates then the m8.

I only said that all in reference to price.
And I've taken just as good pictures from the M8 as I have with the iPhone, note4, xperia z3 and the HTC one M9. Yes. I've owned them all.

When reviewers say that there's no need to upgrade from the M8 to M9 they're saying it for a reason. Anyways. I was just saying it all in reference to the price. Doesn't matter what I say.

Oh and the M9 doesn't heat up.
But sensing the heat you have in your comments, it just might.

Peace.

Guyver, I also have the M7 and am considering the M9.
My phone also overheats but only with Ruzzle, never when viewing videos, or other usage.
I'm not a fan of the M8 and honestly, I was disappointed when the M9 was released.
HTC phones are all I've ever had, starting with the original EVO. I'm close to just buying the iPhone 6+.
Did you purchase the M9?

I have the m9, really enjoyed enjoying it. The only thing that I felt met down on was the camera, I'm sure there are ways to make it look good but I don't think you should have to, doesn't overheat.
