I recently updated to 5.5 .901 it worked perfectly I had no problems. I updated from 5.5 .893 and I'm rooted. The update was working perfectly for a few days then all of the sudden I have no 3g. I don't believe this is the result of the new update. I contacted verizon and after doing several diagnostic tests they seem to think that I have a defective sim card. Their mailing me a new 1 I just want to see what you guys think. Here is what is weird I have the 3g icon but no conectivity however when I turn on wifi and get a connection to wifi the 3g then tries to connect. If anybody has any idea what is going on with my phone or any ideas on things I can try to fix this issue please let me know. This is what I've tried so far pulled the sim card toggled airplane mode pulled the battery done everything except a hard reset I even reinstalled the 5.5 .901. So tell me what you think.

Yea it sounds like the Sim may have gotten messed up. You could try a factory reset, or you could just try the new Sim when it comes in. You could also try restart connections app in market.

I am having the exact same problem with my Bionic. I am on 5.9.901. I performed a cache clear and complete system wipe back to factory, perfomed the update to 5.9.901 again for good measure. I thought I had lost root but just had to reload the superuser.apk. This data connection problem started yesterday afternoon in central Louisiana. It is still showing the "3G" icon but it is all white and all data usage fails due to no connection. If I check in the settings, about phone, status, it shows mobile network state as connected. I am wondering if this is a phone issue, or a verizon tower issue.

Try resetting your existing SIM. Power off your phone, pull the battery, take out the SIM card. Then place the battery back and boot the phone. It will complain that there is no SIM. Power down the phone again, take out the battery, and reinsert the SIM card. Pop the battery back in, and power up the phone.
